Irrational dislikes anybody?

Like as not, they are calling from a Withheld number. I have tried to make them understand the irony of it, but they are script readers, not allowed (able?) to you the brain they were provided with.

Watch out for Sky if you have it - they normally phone up once a day to offer something or other. But there are people phishing at the moment pretending to be Sky who also phone up once a day (my name isn't on the account but the phishing folk ask for me).

That's another one of them rational dislikes there. PS - how the heck do you get rid of Sky? I'm close to cancelling the account.

Sky junk callers, or the Sky account?


Junk callers of all flavours get a load of abuse. They don't understand "Please don't call me again", sadly. Junk emailers (SPAMmers) get reported upstream, which once in a while gets a sensible response.

At the works as well as at home, I have Anonymous Caller Reject and also Choose to Refuse. It gets most of the junk callers. The ones it allows through get plan A.

Isn't there anywhere on the website (once you have logged in) to tick a box for no telemarketing?

I'm being plagued with "this is a free message" recording, don't know what it's for as I put the phone down at that point.

the way i stop taking junk calls is pick phone up say hello and if nobody answers straight away hang up
i have done this a few times when my mum has phoned and she has had to phone back a few times and said there is something wrong with your phone till i told her when i say hello say something back straight away or i will hang up on you everytime

the ones that really get my goat are when they call me then want me to prove who I am, answer a few security questions etc

these are easy..... "sorry you called me....so whats the security code on the card you are calling about?"" whats my last transaction & when?" " What bank details do you have for that acc?"

So you expect me to give this info to anyone who calls?, bye....hangs up

Cold callers always get the same from me these days, "I am on the telephone preference service no calls list so........"

Two dislikes really,
1) People that say "can i lend spanner" when they mean "can I borrow a spanner"

2) And I'm with Malcolm on the American theme,

Particularly on woodworking programmes when making a housing joint and they call the groove a RABBIT and not a rebate, where the h3LL does that come from!!

try answering the telemarketing calls and totally waste their time , up until the point they want you to commit to something !! I kept one double glazing idiot on a call for over an hour once , going through all their products and services (!!) , said I had a large house with 6 bedrooms etc etc , insisted on some idea of price , how long to do the job , were they properly insured , etc , etc . Reached the point where she tried to make an appointment for a sales person to call and just said , actually , I've changed my mind and just hung up !!

GMTV's "difficult" contests. Have to be clinically dead not to be able to get the correct answer. I refuse to watch GMTV, as they talk like they are explaining something to toddlers.

Women and their fascination of making men put the toilet seat down. Don't be so bloody lazy and put it down yourself, we have to lift it to take a leak and never moan about it.

OK, so neither rational nor irrational, like or dislike, but this seems to be as good a thread as any... for years I have been dodging - or rather, baiting - the TV licencing people

They send 'reminders' to 'The Legal Occupier'. I bin them.

They send 'Licencing officials are in your area, pay now'. I bin them.

They send 'We'll be paying you a visit' cards, followed a day or two later by 'We told you we'd call' cards... all of which go in the bin.

Every once in a while a real person knocks at the door. They ask if I have a telly. I say no. They ask my name. I ask theirs They ask if they can come in: I decline. They offer to come back with a policeman and a warrant. I say go ahead, but they never have. They ask me to give them my details, even though they and I are not doing business. I have never, do not and never will own a television. Yet they treat me like some sort of criminal in a system that relies on me proving my innocence rather than them proving my guilt.

I was told by one their droids that not owning a telly puts me in such a small minority that I dont exist. Eh?
I would love them to come avisiting when junior is watching Dr Who on I player.

Another one, this drives me wild.
People saying 'you were lucky' after something bad had happens. eg lying in traction with a mashed leg being told 'YWL' no I bloody wasnt, I may be fortunate to still have the leg attached but I was unlucky to meet the idiot who jumped the red light.

Or people saying 'there's nothing worse than..' then describing something so trivial I want to kill them eg My mate Jim said 'TNWT hard brie'. maybe living in Darfur and seeing your family murdered?
