Irrational dislikes anybody?

I can't stand the wooden stick you get in the middle of ice lollies or ice creams. Just the thought of cold wood on tongue or teeth send shivers down my spine.

I thought I was the only other person on earth with that one! A kindred spirit!

The wife and kids laugh at me when we're out on a sunny day and been to the ice cream van, I need to unwrap the lolly and fold the wrapper around the stick without touching it.

Wierd thing is, it's only the horrible wood that the sticks are made of, I'm fine with every other kind of dead tree

This week, I have developed and irrational dislike of

Naah it's important stuff is tolerance.

I have many dislikes but they are all completely rational (hence no reply from me in Chunko's irrational thread. Even dislike of those wooden ice cream sticks is completely rational - stupid things where plastic would be a much better engineering solution).

But I have found that everyone else is completely irrational.

Mediocrity, that drives me mad. it seems these days that medicrioty is aspirational, music? cars? fashion? dull dull dull.

Where are the weird rebelious teenagers? dressed like Chris sodding Martin.
No angry music, what? is there nowt to protest about?
Cars? why is every sucker driving a grey car? Grey? the colour of that nonentity John Major.

Ye gods we need a baking hot summer and angry young people on the streets, not rehashing some old cobblers but making up some new cobblers of their own.

I can rant quite fluently on this tpic.

Oh and bad covers of classic songs.

Oh and the poxy fund raising songs, where every non celeb has to 'sing' their own line and have it spliced together like aural diarrohea. Live aid was a crap song but it was heartfelt.

I am going to hijack radio2 and play Robert Fripp and godspeedyoublackemperor! for 24 hours. That will give the car body shops plenty of work.

What has this got to do with welding? I supose we have to stew about something when we are sat there with buckets on our heads.

That IS an engineering issue. Properly engineered ice creams on sticks would use a plastic that doesn't do the shiver on your spine thing. Who the feck else other than engineers will think of the end eater? I'm guessing engineers just haven't been involved yet.

And while I'm here. Does anyone else think a revolution would be a good idea? French had one a few years back and they chopped a few heads off which must have been very satisfying. Different management system came out of that too.

I agree 100% (or more with your post), we need anger on the streets, we need grey and silver cars to be banned. That is why I cannot stand "tolerance", especially of mediocrity and conformity. Thankfully, none of my cars are grey or silver.

Even though I don't have much of his stuff, Robert Fripp is one of the most interesting guitarists I have heard. I must get some King Crimson -can you recommend any albums?? Would prefer them on vinyl of course.

I still hate vaccuum cleaners though.

Health and safety nazis have ruined it now but the old 'battle of the flaming vacuum cleaners' was a fun pastime at rod runs a few years back. Rumour has it was invented after a member of the Corvair owners club used one to syphon petrol out of one his cars. Take a collection of vacuum cleaners, place nozzle over a saucer of petrol switch on and stand back... Winner is judged by the crowd, could be biggest bang, best flamethrower impression etc

Like Malcolm i'm struggling with this as i can rationalise my dislikes. Health and safety for example, on the one hand it's messing up evolution (the stupid are prevented from killing themselves before they can breed) but without it we could be still be facing victorian working conditions

Re the useless academics. I can see that one but kinda feel for those that i've known. A guy at university for example, amazing clever but probably unemployable as his social skills were boardering on autistic, never would have got through an interview and you'd barely trust him to sit on a toilet the right way round

What about irrational likes? For years i was able to ignore the forrest that was my back garden. Why is since turning 30 i've had the urge to go out and tidy it, prune things, dead head other things and the most irrational of all... the lawn! Why do i find myself raking dead thatch, airating it and feeding the damn thing when i hate cutting the grass.

The world has more than its fair share of academic derelicts .
My nephew at the age of 38 is little more than an annoying ex professional student with degrees in the Bio sciences arena , he knows the insides of a gnats Harris , but that's only useful if your a gnat and gay .

If you put two shovels side by side and told him to take his pick he'd still be there this time next month discussing it with himself .

Never having been gainfully employed in his whole life he has ( after reading up about it ) managed to be certified as an intense Aspergers type and is now supposed to be unemployable because of it .

Is it irrational or wrong to say , " Stick him in a treadmill , don't feed or water him till he does at least 1000 revs before each meal and hook up a small genny to the tread wheel at the same time."

if you are after old school acid rock buy the album May Blitz by band of the same name, they invented what Led zepp were doing then imploded in the traditional drugs hell.

What an interesting bunch we are, lolly stick haters, designers and theorists, vaccumm cleaner haters the petrol idea apealls to me horribly, the standing around waiting for what? to happen sounds appealing.

Stealth and safety nazis, rational dialike possibly but their theories are irrational.
