Insurance premium increase........

I have 6 points (was 9) 5 years no claims (was an accident on last year) and tell them I do 30k miles a year

Mrs has no points, never had an accident and does under 5k miles a year

She pays more for her fiat 500 than I do for my disco, with the mods all declared

Me and Mrs Robo are with Sheilas wheels, one of their joint policies. The last couple of years my premium has dropped while hers has gone up with no changes in vehicles or driving history

I dare not try any of the comparison sites because as soon as I tick the "ever had insurance declined or cancelled" box most of them refuse to quote

We left admiral after the premium went up by hundreds a few years ago. Got a quite from Aviva for multi car at less than half. Called and told admiral I was leaving, they tried to get the premium down and managed to drop it a few hundred but not nearly enough.
Asked about loyalty and was told it's to do with their algorithm and Aviva must have different algorithms for our area/postcode.
Been with aviva for a few years now and minus a couple if sillys they've been pretty good at bot I creasing our premium at renewal.

Meanwhile online at Avivia organising a 2 car policy I got my wife's birthday wrong by 6 days (we differ by only by 3 days and I got it the wrong side). Changed it and the quote went up by £50...changed it back and it went down again. Insane!

Any of you chaps read the small print/know who the underwriters are of the policy you have? Markerstudy seem to be one of the worse in my opinion, I know that with motorcycles, they won't pay out if the bike is stolen from your driveway at ANY time of the day for example, if you've said that you have a garage.

I have a few Aviva shares, when I had insurance from them my account was tagged as such and attracted a few percent discount, did not stop them hiking the price after a couple of years. I phoned them and had a rant, they offered a slightly better price, I told them not to take the P and took my business elsewhere, still got the shares and take the dividends though.

The thing to check carefully with the comparison sites is that you're getting exactly the same cover and range of benefits as your current policy, it's the only way you make meaningful comparisons.

Some cheaper quotes, when you examine them closely, aren't as full as what you've got and you need to pay extra to get up to that.

Couldn't agree more, there are lots if requests for "cheap" public liability insurance on FB groups. I use Axa, not the cheapest but if I ever do need to claim I dont need the hassle of a cheap company messing me about

Be careful with that one....my home insurance was with John Lewis and that took 18 months to sort out when my neighbour drove through the front of my house! With John Lewis their policy was just rebranded....the actual insurer at that time was was RSA. Just check who the underwriter is and review them as they are the ones you'll be dealing with if there is a major claim!

If you dig deep enough, most policies are written by BISL - you're really only dealing with Brokers as front men. Price differences accounted for by sales levels ad differing commission rates, I suspect.

Yea my experience with them is they are good....same with Zurich too.

But there are definitely loads out there who are just using their "well known name" to sell policies which are basically underwritten by other insurers. Nothing wrong with that of course....but when you charge a hefty premium on the basis of a brand and then the policy doesn't live up to the expectation....well you've damaged your brand.....keep doing that and pretty soon you'll be going out of business I think!

I find aviva pretty good have continually dropped my premium on my multi car policy even after i had a bump last year.
