Instant relief

Apprentice at work nipped his finger .
This brought back memories .
He decided just to suffer the pain .

The last time I did three of my finger like that ( well a bit worse ) the hospital used like a soldering iron on the nails and pierced the them , the blood shot about three feet up the wall ! she never learnt though and did exactly the same with the next two claret everywhere . Loving the home job your a hard man John

Didn't have the bottle to heat paper clip so drove to work and drilled a 1/32hole with pillar drill

the last time i did that and very first one was under the nail even with all the times ive hit my fingers with the hammer

i decided to suffer it even though i was told to heat up a needle and stick it through the nail yeah right am i hell doing that

i got home did a few things and then went to bed early hrs usual for me

could i get to sleep no the damn thing throbbed like a git until 5-6 am had enough got up rebiewed what i could do to get to sleep

still squeamish about doing it heated a needle and stuck it through the nail whilst so tired

instant relief did i go to sleep no stayed up then told someone i couldnt help with roof as id been up all night

then ripped the head off at the person that made the wrong comment when i wasnt in the mood for them

then lost the thumbnail as i had done enough damage it did grow back though

Ugh! Reminds me when I dropped a heavy transformer on my foot many years ago. Nurse at the local infirmary just heated up a paper clip and burnt through the nail. Large toenail dropped off some while later, fortunately it regrew ok again. Always wore steel toe cap shoes and boots after that.

Also remember a mate who dropped a shell (not the seashore variety) on his foot, landed sort of pointy end downwards and caused him some bloody grief!

Ooh yeah. I remember doing something similar, trying to crack a nut off I was swinging a 4lb hammer and missed. Thankfully the component was well protected with my pinky which took the brunt of the swing. That hurt nearly as much as dropping the corner of an engine onto one of my toes… very nearly sick with the pain. The relief is great when you can release the pressure of the blood under the nail but the squelching got annoying quickly…

I was amazed the first time I had that done. Soldering iron type thing at the doctors after an argument between my little finger and a car door. Sizzle sizzle, squirt squirt, instant relief. Nail grew out and dropped off.

On a somewhat related topic, a few years ago I somehow managed to bash my wedding ring finger while working on the house. It immediately started to swell up, and my wedding ring threatened to cut off the circulation in that finger, so I quickly grabbed my Dremel tool and carefully cut through the narrowest part of my wedding ring, and then spread it far enough apart to get it off of my finger. My finger fully recovered, but my wedding ring still needs to be repaired, so I'm wearing a 'temporary' ring to make spouse happy until I stop procrastinating about getting the real one fixed.

The first time I did that was shutting it in the crew door of a C130 at about 2.00 in the morning. I spent the next 5 hours in abject agony until 7.30 when I was able to get into the station dentist who put a drill through the nail. The relief was instant and euphoric!

This reminds me of a similar incident that happened to a chap I was on detachment with. He'd caught his wedding ring whilst off-loading cargo and it had cut right into his finger and it was bleeding quite badly. His boss (UKMAMS - some will know!) asked me for a hacksaw. I asked him if he planned to finish the job the ring had started! Needless to say, I got a small pair of side cutters and removed it for him without causing anymore damage.

Working in a one horse business (40yrs back), making PSU cases. Holding the case as I drilled hole the 3/16" drill went straight and drilled though my thumbnail on the other side. Apart from a stomach churning sensation there wasn't masses of pain. The secretary/receptionist/bosses girlfriend said 'let's have a look' and nearly pasted out. There was meat in the flutes of the drill. So I had to drive myself the hospital. Soaked it in magic fluid. Nail dropped off an grew back.
I didn't even cry...much.

urghhh, darn I dont think I could use hot needle , last time I scolded of a small twist bit and drilled through by spinning it between my fingers , got a squirt then the throbbing stopped.
