urghhh, darn I dont think I could use hot needle , last time I scolded of a small twist bit and drilled through by spinning it between my fingers , got a squirt then the throbbing stopped.

thats what i thought but being honest here it was less pressure to push the hot pin through the nail than it would have been using a twist drill to drill through the nail

A couple of inches of glowing mig wire works very well but you have to be quick and accurate .
That reminds me of lighting a cigarette with hot mig wire . I can smell it now .

When you tell someone who has never done it before that you've drilled through your nail or pierced it with a hot needle they look at you like you've lost the plot.

I wonder if the feeling is the same when trepanning, I've only learnt about this in the later part of my life. The thought of drilling a hole in your skull seems crazy but there are people still doing it in the 60-70s

I remember many years ago as an apprentice my boss was screaming at me to HIT THE **** NAIL. So he snatched one up and screamed at me to hammer it home, we both realised at the same time I was going to miss but he didn't get away in time and his thumb was black for weeks.

it was fairly common in Dublin twenty years ago , amongst heavy heroin users , to use a 2mm size drill bit , and drill through their own skull , using the bit in the finger and thumb , then release the fluid surrounding the brain ,,, apparently the sudden pressure release give a high .


Ill pass on that one I think , but two things spring to mind ,,
1 how far down do you have to go before that seems like a great idea
and
2 who on earth discovered that and why did they even try this .

I thought exacty the same, I read some stuff about people hanging upside down to extend the high for hours.

I'm nervous drilling through a nail, drilling through bone next to the second most imprtant thing in your body sounds crazy.

I have always been a hot wire person. The few times I’ve done it.

I am a quick learner

Was at a friends farm the other day and he’d got his thumb tip stuck in some machine or other. He was going to drill it but didn’t because his wife sent him to A&E. Unusually for him he gave in and went.

Turns out he had mushed the triangular bone in the end and it was the pressure that was holding it all together. Nurse reckoned if he’d drilled it it would have been a load of mush once the pressure went.

No idea if she was right or not but made me think twice if I ever need to do the hot wire again!!
