I’m all for people having a go, but it’s really not that simple.

You don’t need to be Oftec registered to fit the boiler but I bet your insurance would like a certificate
And what about the eleventy million little jobs? If you are fitting it open vent how do you pipe the pump? If it’s sealed how do you size the vessel? Where do you put it? How do you notch the joists properly?
I admit the £11.5k quote is a lot, but get other quotes and see if a decent company can do you a proper price

Yeah I will do, having a few issues finding someone who is decent and has space in the diary, surprisingly difficult when you haven been in an area all that long.
I’m definitely going to go down the route of sourcing the bits myself though

Go see the landlord at your local pub. He'll probably use a decent plumber and there will be folk who will know decent local guys.

I’m happy to do labour only jobs, I have the plans for a monster extension on my desk right now, but I send the client a list of parts and materials I want and it has to be exact and there on day 1. I’ve also have some quotes clients have asked me to “check” even if their best mate spends £100k a month at the merchants I can usually beat the prices

The Gas Safe Register can also refer safety concerns to the HSE (Health and Safety Executive). Invoicing a customer for work which they claim to be legal but is not is also to be considered fraudulent under Trading Standards.
Homeowners who knowingly allow non-compliant work to be carried out could also face prosecution and fines of up to £5,000.

oh yes you need to fit the heat recovery system in now its the law sorry the price is going to be 700.00 to fit it into your system and you lose 2 cupboards as well in your brand new kitchen this is on top of your price for the boiler oh yes customer dosnt know this

Please note I'm not a heating expert, just an enthusiastic DIYer.
When you say your boiler uses 3L per hour is that it's maximum consumption rate ? if your boiler is running non-stop I'd say it was undersized as most boilers cycle on and off once the property has warmed up.
Our boiler is only on for 15 to 25 mins in every hour once it's up to temp, because we don't have any insulation as such so it runs for longer when it's colder outside or windy due to heat losses, My place is about half the size of yours so that will made a big difference,
Oh dear, so the almost new grant vortex i bought after a few beers turned up today, and its not a bloody combi! 
Serves me right for buying stuff under the influence. On the plus side im confident i can sell it on for a meagre profit so no real damage there.
Seen another (for real this time) combi for sale. Its stated as only having had 2 years use, messaged the seller and he 'thinks' its only 5 years old and has been stored for 2 years.. which would mean its been used for 3 years but whatever.
Its a worcester greenstar heatslave 18/25. The model in question was produced 2010-13. is there any method of actually dating these things? I've asked for the serial with the hope i can call them up and find something out but he says its i his lockup so will be monday. I don't mind buying a 5 year old boiler but an 8 year old seems to be pushing it slightly.
I can't think of any obvious pitfalls of buying a boiler that has been stored for a few years - am i missing something?
