I can’t get on with them, find it too hot underneath me. My in-laws bought one when it first came out, cost best part of a grand. It lasted about 3 days on the bed & they rang the charity shop & asked them to take it away. What a waste, but that was them!Has anyone else had problems with memory foam mattresses?

Memory foam matteress goes back today.
I've always preferred a thin rock hard mattress like a futon bed. But my wife has always struggled with my preference she has a lot of back related problems due to sciatica and loses a lot of sleep. She's experimented with different pillows, supports etc etc. I agreed to a new mattress reluctantly, but i'd agree to almost anything to bring her some pain relief. She tried a memory foam 'topper' and I hated it. I woke up in the morning aching and sweaty and I couldn't understand why. Eventually I realised the topper stops me from rolling around in my sleep and I think it insulates too much. She didn't seem to benefit from it either. We bought an 'orthopaedic' mattress and that wasn't much better. As there was a 'trial' period we were allowed to exchange it and we ended up with a more expensive mattress which was OK. Wish I could go back to my futon bed but needs must.My sleep, or lack of it, problems started about five years ago after the death of my wife with lots of stress and hassle. Just before I downsized I bought a new mattress, one of the memory foam type, believing the miracle claims that were being made. I find it too warm on these hot nights and am not convinced about the support even though it is quite firm. So yesterday I put a spare single conventional mattress bed back up to give that a try for a week or two, if successful will buy a sprung double for the master bedroom.

Cheers for that, I bear that in mind for future reference.Toomanywheelz, Looking at mattresses the other day I noticed you can buy one with different firmness on each half. Might suit your needs.
I've tried listening to something but I can't fall asleep with headphones in me ears, too uncomfortable
for me the hardest part is falling asleep.
It can take me hours sometimes, I always try to take my mind off it but it's always there, the thought that I need to fall asleep now..
It helps when it's raining though, love that.

Listening to a party political broadcast should have you comatose within a minute.
Bob
good shout that!I have a cheap Amazon echo "Alexa": set to play "rain on a tent" all night
Surprisingly effective.
When I've struggled to go to sleep I've found trying to read The Silmarillion by Tolkien, seemed have me closing my eyes after about 4 pages! It's hard reading after his other books.
