In need of some solid brass hinges for vintage motor

Did some A7 ones recently as said silver soldered & re drilled hole with new pin shimmed the knuckles to remove the drop not a biggy, the A7 hinges have a large No. of variations & as mate had all the same wanted to keep originals.
He had a rummage in Bristol A7 spares shed

The type I have are are extruded brass then cut to length and the slots milled. I expect these were done the same way. are they Austin Seven?

In the image above has the side to the right had steel bushed brazed in place of the brass or is it just how it looks in the photo?

It's not been brazed, discolouration is old paint.

Ron if the originals are painted, does it even matter if the replacements are silver soldered? They won't actually be originals anyway so if they look like them is that not enough?

You're right it wouldn't matter if replacements were silver soldered as they're painted the same colour as the bodywork
Unfortunately I don't have access to gear to carry out a silver solder repair & would have to pay somebody to go that route. I suspect that might cost just as much as buying new replacements despite them being somewhat overpriced.

A long shot, but do you have any old fashioned or traditional hard ware shops near you.

I ask, for the simple reason my friend john restores old clocks, he sources his old style hinges from a local, swdust on floor hard ware shop.

May be worth a look.

Best off-the-shelf hardware store items would be heavy duty parliament or projection hinges. Often made for heavier doors, and the large plate size would allow trimming and re-drilling holes to suit. But I suspect you wont save much money. Good hinges aren't cheap.

I followed up you suggestion & guess what I found.

The hinges are 4mm thick exactly what I need & cutting down the hinge to the central section It looks like I can get the size I need near enough (2" deep instead of 1.25", which would probably be better) & the bit I need would be undrilled. Best of all a pair is 1/2 the price the vintage parts firm wanted for one.
