If anything it probably separates and the water evaporates and leaves a gungy sticky mess which dries up and causes the issues.Can you riches the mix,or do you think it separates leaving just the water?
interesting i also thought oil a better option but it definitely had grease originally. I've stuck some Shell grease in it, time will tell.Yes as long as it is just at the top. Mine was seized low down which means the whole bow needs to come off and I have no means of lifting with a block and tackle so means I need to borrow an engine hoist. Oiling via the nipple has done fine so far. Initially tried grease but it locked with the pressure.
Never had an issue with it not cutting straight but the first thing I would check is that the bow is true. If you raise it and set a square in the vice against the blade then lower it down and make sure it is true.
