Identify Boxford Lathe?

I'm new here and i'm buying my first lathe, if anyone knows anything about this lathe or can tell me what it's called i'd be very grateful,

I’ve just been looking at that machine on FarceBook. Based near Sevenoaks in Kent. It’s certainly a strange beast, and possibly (probably) not the obvious choice for a first lathe. Interesting nevertheless...

It looks like a bitsa. Bitsa this, bitsa that.

MKII or MKIII head, early carriage with some weird handles.

To be honest I’d steer well clear of that. It’s been heavily modified by either a genius or lunatic. I’d look for a straight original machine.

Just keep your eyes open and keep looking, lathes come up often enough.

And as you did, ask advice.

I bought mine blind, luckily it was a good one, could have been a heap of poo.

And distance, I hired a 2 ton trailer, behind a family estate car, took 1.5 ton of lathe no issues.

I don't agree. No oilers on the ME10, for a start. The hand wheels are non-original and there's no tailstock.

I don’t think those oilers are original!
Back gear or whatever it is different on me 10 so I retract my statement!
No tailstock but a ghetto capstan

I think they are, but of course they're grease fittings, not oilers

They were fitted to the MKI, MKII but not the MKIII head.

What does everyone think of a Clarke CL430? Bit sceptical as the carriage is moved by a handle on the lead screw? What's your thoughts on this?

How much do you have to spend? Do you want something that will last? How desperate are you?
Personally, I'd sooner have a nice solid British made lathe any time.

Its smaller than the Boxford, and not as strongly built, but I have had hours of fun with it. Nice little lathe for a beginner, but being a mini lathe, it does have limitations

This one seems a little pricey to me - you can get a bigger machine for similar money.
