i'm considering selling the ovlov, and buying myself a "project" 3.0TD land cruiser colorado on a 2004 plate.

its been stood in a garage since 2018 - when it passed an MOT with no advisories.
looks clean + tidy, and he wants 1800 for it.

tyres about 50 a corner (part worn).
honest john reckons 30mpg - which is 50% better than a shogun.

worth 3K with 12 months MOT, so that gives me a good idea of a budget to get it on road.
worst case, i'd get most if not all back if i break it.

Bullet proof. Sold ours at 160k it’s now on 230k With the buyer and that’s a petrol too! That was a R or S reg I forget.

now have a 2008, only problem is the air con and rust around the sunroof.

Great vehicles , had a couple as work vehicles in the past , the MPG is the big variable
Tyre sizes seem to vary and supply was a bit of an issue never missed a beat and I did abuse them .

get a good look round rear shock mounts ... can be a problem area and not handy to fix but can be done if needed.

Toyotas tend to be a little optimistic with the mpg, but I would have thought you’d get close to that on a run.
I was considering one to replace my current Nissan terrano (which also has a 3.0L diesel, and has averaged very close to 30mpg over the last 40000 miles) but have decided to get either a Nissan patrol or an Amazon. I highly rate Japanese cars as a whole, had a few over the years and never had a serious fault with one.
either way I couldn’t live without a 4x4 now! Have got some Yokohama geolander a/t tyres on it and it goes anywhere. Very useful in the recent snow we’ve had here, and as I found out a couple of years ago, provided the snow doesn’t go above the height of the number plate it’ll plod through!

Most unreliable vehicle I ever owned was a land cruiser 80series 4.2 diesel

It broke down in France out of phone signal in the winter with two babies in it.

Had a discovery 3, allegedly dog doo reliable never even had a hiccup
