I think my Portamig 181 is broken *UPDATE - problem solved*
Hey Guys,
Tonight I went to hook up a new gas bottle to my Portamig 181. While I was making sure the regulator was set-up to my liking I turned the power down on the wire speed to avoid wasting too much wire. Unfortunately when I turned it back up it no longer feeds!
I can still hear the motor/solenoid clicking but there is Zero movement anywhere. I took the side off and all appears ok, everything in place etc, no heat in the motor or anything else worrying...
I have always thought the wire speed was a little strange with it, I had to have the speed set around 7 out of ten to achieve I decent feed when welding regular auto metal on Course 2 Fine 1. Also it always seemed to have intital problems feeding until it got up to speed, i.e. it would be ok when running a longish stitch but sometimes not feed immediately after pressing the trigger when spot/plug welding (Eurotorch). The roller tension and wheel tension is not over tightened. Either way, I think I may have just killed it.
Any ideas anyone? Thanks in advance...
Tom Kettle.
