are you sure it is not a model A?Nice lathe
It's an AUD
We had one for around 20 years great bit of kit - much better than the myfords. ...
There is a book available - know your lathe by Boxford, - our copy is from 1988 - see photo.
It describes how to turn from the basics right through to screwcutting and milling all on the Boxford lathes and includes maintenance instructions etc.
Get the book, practice and then once you are up to speed refurbish the lathe (after you have made all the silly mistakes!)

Take pictures of everything. Plastic takeaway pots are great. All small parts for a particular component grouped together in one tub helps come reassembly, check the manuals and watch out for sprung parts. Open em in a bag.
cool i am off to look for those books on ebay right now so its a AUD i cant find a reverse switch on it though, is there a replacment gearbox for metric thread cutting
Lol. Even chefs have cba days.take away pots! i am a chef I dont do takeaways! lol my suppliers sell them though!
It's a mechanical reverse not electrical (lever just above the Norton gearbox and to the left)
If it's imperial (ours was) then for metric threads you need to switch the gear train.
You would need the 56t gear, the 127/100t compound gear and then whatever stud gear for the thread
So
1mm = 32t
1.25mm = 20t
1.5mm = 24t
1.75mm = 28t
Etc

Yes. Rust free. Nice and clean. Primer. Paint. Leave for six days.Thats what I was thinking I like tough, does it need to be completely rust free before painting

Should be ok.what is the prefered primer? I have some nice 2K acid etch here waiting to be used
Yes
Model A is bench mounted, model AUD is a model A on a cabinet (under drive - UD)
It should be shown on page 3 of the know your lathe as from the download link above
is there a table or list ect for this info?
Know your lathe page 75 in the above download
thats great to know thanks so I just purchase these gears and swap them out do I.
