I hate 240v

In the UK you tend to get one street on one phase and then other streets on the other phases so if one goes down not everyone is hit.

You certainly know if there's a power outage round here, all the house alarms that haven't been maintained go off due to duff batteries

We've had a, I think, 200A 3 phase connector. The cable was stupid, almost knocked my mate out when it flipped over due to a twist.

Above that we switched over to PowerLocks which were several hundred amps (think we had 500A/phase). Individual plugs about 2" diameter. You have to push the earth in and twist, that locks it in and unlocks neutral. Then you insert Neutral, then L1, L2 and L3 in sequence. To unplug you did the reverse to ensure the equipment was always safe.

I was working on a video production in the 80's at Shepperton studios, no idea how old the installation was but the 3 phase supplies came down the walls in a wood "trunking" with a wooden "funnel" at the bottom, if you looked up inside the funnel you could see the ends of the busbars and they used a type of croc clip to connect cables to the busbar.

tell me about it working in folks houses when they are out and i cut the power and they go off and i haven't got the code
number and they dont answer there mobile phone to get it

Here in germany basically all houses are on 3P 400V Grid. 230V sockets are fused by max 16A. Maximum power on regular buildings are about 22kW but they are going to upgrade because of EV chargers.
Industrial 400V supply sockets are up to 125A. All above is hard wired.

At the risk of going mines bigger than yours our fuse for this cabinet was a 1/4" X 1" copper bar.

I was working on my first CNC plasma cutter repair (a friends machine) and his plasma power supply ( A-120) needed IIRC 62 amps input, the fused safety switch had 40 amp fuses.
I looked over the situation, and found the panel feeding the switch, had a 75 amp breaker, and appropriate sized wire.
Seeing how his shop was also a screw machine shop, and the fuses were the 3/4" dia x 6" long style (no blades at the ends) I simply found 3 bar ends of solid brass that fit real nice......
