I had no problems welding car body work with mt Rohr , 0.8 wire and universal gas ,,, and I mean no problems at all, so either the specs are wrong or your being fed wrong info. Mind you I have been welding car bodys for a lifetime , so Im quite well practiced .

As Rohr have gone burst where do I get one and how about warranty repairs/spares. Thanks.
the same unit was sold as a blackline ,,, but as with any Chinese inverter welder ,,, the warranty may as well be non existent, if you dont have to lift it I would be looking at a second hand sealey 180 or the likes ,,, cheap and cheerful but versatile , and if you buy it well you will get your money back a couple of years down the line if you buy something more technical or with more features .

Yes ^^. The spares/ backup situation is why few people in the know buy any generic Chinese welder with no UK base. IMO some good secondhand buys of decent older kit are from metalworkers shutting up their shops, but spec and location are the problems there. Private sellers though can sometimes hide faults, and if you're not knowledgeable can fob you of with excuses (unless they're members here of course)

On a shoestring, I would recommend a second hand Clarke. 150 ish. And out of date fire extinguishers.
There are machines that are better and easier to use. But that's a not terrible tool for very low outlay that will, with a bit of practice, restore a vehicle easily.
If you can afford more than the value of one of those, step up to a better, more professional brand.

The asking price is too high. If you want it, I would suggest make an offer of £220.
As for warranty and spares and repairs, at this price level - none! ( Except Stahlwerk - 7 years ).

Pity the O.P. is not closer, as I’ve got a Clarke 160TM I must get round to selling, I bought an R-tech in a rash moment, still you can’t have too many welders, or so I tell my wife!

ive done Belfast to London and back in a day to collect lamps ,,, and that has two ferry crossings in the trip,,,, but I guess its down to how busy you are and if you like road trips...
something local may turn up though ,,,, old cebora / cemont / sealey or boc lots of folk dont like the older transformer machines ,,, I use an old esab machine from time t time , its tall and very thin and welds smoother than most things I use ... something will turn up.

First place Id look would be on your local face ache market place, gumtree etc. They come up all the time. Word of mouth too. I was offered an old Thermal arc the other day.

In my opinion......sometimes if a whole workshop is closing the expensive kit is mentioned ...mills lathes ovens etc and the old working welder is sat in the corner somewhere....so worth looking at all kinds of ads (include eBay too - there are some genuine sellers on there too). You can set searches within a selected distance to filter out the stuff you'd never go for. Yeah it's all time consuming I know I know!

I wouldn’t want to send it parcel post, it’s pretty heavy & it would be difficult to pack so it didn’t get damaged.
A mate picked up a tatty looking but working old Murex Tradesmig 160 Transformer Welder for £100 a couple of years ago while his other Murex was being repaired.
Giving a hand one day I used it. I'm inexperienced but either it was easy to set up or I lucked-in, but it was welding thin metal beautifully and was so nice to use. (If I'm honest I liked it better than my Oxford MigMaker 180-1 I bought new).
(He used it to weld up a Nissan Terrano afterwards without touching the settings - & was so impressed he decided to keep it dammit - as he was going to sell it on, & I'd have bought it for what he paid
).I mean I am trying to repair my van, I would need to borrow to travel to collect so delivery would be better, I only need it to do vehicle body no ally.
