Germany only waste 10% of their water through leaks compared to our high volume amounts.
...........Thames water have sold 20+ reservoirs and some of them are now housing estates. .........
In the old days they used to flood villages to make resevoirs.
Re the reverse osmosis process.
From here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reverse_osmosis
"energy requirements ....(for desalination)....... are still much higher than those required for other forms of water supply (including reverse osmosis treatment of wastewater)."
And from here http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/05/02/water_vs_energy_analysis/
"But modern technology can be used to cheaply turn seawater, the supply of which is effectively infinite, into fresh drinking water by desalinating it."
So one says it's expensive to desalinate seawater, the other says it's cheap![]()
That's not what it says. The Register's article says it isn't expensive.
Wikipedia says it takes more energy than "other" forms of water supply.
Without real numbers the Wikipedia comment means nothing.
The last few comments do not take into account we are on a very small island with one of the highest number of people per acre in the world!!
