Hydrovane 15

Hi
I've got hold of a Hydrovane 15, the gauge on the back is broke,but the compressor still works, just leaks air, I'm getting a new gauge, I've never owned a compressor before so it's all new, are they good ? I'm doing up a old car so been getting a few bits together.
Does the Hydrovane have a oil filter ? I want to change oil etc as I don't know how old it is.

Not sure about an oil filter on that model but screw compressors are generally much better than piston types for both noise and output(cfm). For car bodywork an air cut-off saw is good, its a small angle grinder type thing. An air chisel for whacking out spot welds, Sand blaster, (be careful about silicosis) and of course the obligatory tyre inflator! There will be an oil drain somewhere, use the right oil to refill, screw compressor oil is a special grade. Will be worth giving the air filter a clean too. Basically inside there is a couple of gears that are always in mesh and the oil makes the seal between them, pushing the air through as they turn. I don't think the oil is pumped anywhere ie through a filter. Good luck!

Thank you so much for getting back, I've found out now that it's a hydrovane 15, the air is leaking out through the broken gauge on the back as shown in the photo, I've seen some gauges on eBay, I think it's a 1/8 I need, but not sure, I will look for that oil, the filter was a mess, looked like a home made filter.

sure it will your max psi should be about 150psi.

them hydrovane compressors are very noisy, incredibly low cfm and notoriously unreliable...really not worth bothering with..

If you want rid of it I will take it off your hands..

Found out why the gauge is broken, just opened it up to look at the oil separator, and this is what I see, took ages getting it all out

Cheers, it's nice and quite, but in need of a service, only owes me £25 so can't grumble, even got hose spray gun,blower, and de greaser. And I was having 2nd thoughts

Always good to get into the guts of such items. I run a big piston type comp. but keep it in another postcode so the noise is reduced to mere thermobaric detonation levels. nice wee welder I hope it does you proud.

I bet that's mega noisy then, The vents on mine are pretty clogged, and idea of the best way to remove the crap clogging it, it's pretty solid, I poked some through with a tiny bit of metal.
The welder is massive compared to the Clark's 100E I have, was told it will weld loads better than the Clark's

i ran a 90cfm v twin broomwade comp run of a 2 cylinder 20 hp lister engine with no silencer for ages now i run a 90 with a 3 cylinder perkie engine with only a half silencer

Its similar to a sealey supermig 195 I had years ago. That welded some serious plant and is still going strong, I sold it to a mate who occasionally keeps it in a field to no ill effect!-one of those regretful sales. Yes that is a good garage size bit of kit. Do you understand about duty cycles, there will be something on here but if not ask!
