hyd clutch thats non ajustable- any reason why i cant do this

ive got a car that has a hydraulic clutch with no ajustable parts, it bites a bit lower than i would like ive replaced the master and slave in an effort to sort this

would there be any reason i cant cut the master push rod and thread it then fit the ends into a stud joiner so i can alter the rod a few mm ?

just cant get my head round how i would suss if the clutch is fully released with the pedal up

any ideas or thoughts

A clutch that bites low down is a good clutch!!
are you sure you have bled it correctly ? some clutches are notoriously diff to bleed properly
better with a pressure bleeder or syringe .

Its probably worn if you're unhappy with the bite point.

depends on if the diaphragm has gone 'over centre' because you can then drive the release fingers into the driven plate. The hydraulic ratio is normally accurate to within a few mm. to save this problem.
A bent driven plate, due to being badly fitted and the gearbox left to hang on the plate, can give a low bite point, usually as a clutch plate wears the pedal gets higher and higher.

as far as im aware its bled well

for a start it was the same with the old /new hydraulics ...and ive bled it syringe and pressure bleeder , then clamped up the slave rod and the pedal is rock hard confirming its air free ?

The arms/forks that hold the release bearing on some cars can break or crack or suffer other forms of malfunction as can the pressure plate. Is there a rubber boot on the fork where it goes into the bell housing that you could move to have a look to see if there is anything obviously wrong? I know access is limited. If not then perhaps a gearbox out might be the best way to ensure all is well before you start modifying the linkage.

no , not any way to inspect it without taking the box off

i just figured alot of cars do have an ajustment there and its something i could do for little time /money , where gearbox removal is a big job for me

Never seen an adjustable hydraulic clutch. Why not pack the slave out with washers instead of shortening the actuator.

Some hydraulic clutches need to be reverse bled. You have to pump fluid in through the bleed nipple.

lhd mk2 golf g60...ive bled it all ways , and im fairly sure by blocking the slave rod and pressing the pedal that confirms its bled

packing the slave out with washers would (i think ) do the opposite of what i want...basicly i need the pedal to have a bit more travel near the carpet

my Rover 45 diesel has a low bite point 1/2 inch off the floor nothing wrong with hydraulics or the clutch worn

does it not make you have to concentrate on carefull gear changes? mine works as such and its okay , its just if youre a bit slap dash and dont have your foot right in the carpet it can crunch the odd gear change

nope never had any problems,
they are also plastic master and slave cylinders not a good idea,
only problems i have had are on very hot days in traffic as master cylinder is near the turbo and make sure the mat does not bunch up under the pedal

I know nothing about this particular car so it's always worth doing a search to find out if there are any common problems.

Generally speaking if a clutch doesn't slip, doesn't drag and has a low biting point then I'd say it's good.
I'd be getting used to pressing it all the way down for gear changes rather than make alterations to suit a sloppy driving habit.

I see your complaint now, its not so much an issue when the clutch is taking up, but when you are depressing it. Yes adding washers would only worsen things.

What's the mileage ? I'd be inclined to say your due a clutch change as it must be at least 20 if not nearer 30 year old....

At least you can replace bits of the system, on some Freelanders you have to buy a complete replacement system
