ive got some of that, nicked it form the last place i worked when the one half of the building was being torn down...massive drum of it in the skip so i filled a sandwich bag or 4 of it...

probblem is there are like 9 plugs on it and they all enter from the top, thats where the water gathers...i think grease may be the way forward as per adrvarks suggestion

stick a plastic tub over the lot

Water runs down the inside of the PUG wiring to get to the ECU ending in desiccated green wire, just cheap design & build

Stick something plastic over the top and make sure the water can drain away, trying to seal it solid will end in disaster yet again.

I still think Torpex or RDX would be better.
1 application would remove all issues.

Neighbour replace his 53 reg Saab convertible as a daily with a 13 reg Mazda 3 diesel. Says not a patch on Saab quality so despite excellent economy has got Saab MOT'd to use again and is struggling to sell Mazda even though he's asking "bottom book".

I was just thinking with BB's record it may be a good choice. Failing that, a Unimog.

it takes a little conversion but these will replace the ECU and you will never worry about water ingress again

We use this stuff at work, it's approved by Mercedes benz UK as a warranty repair for wiring and terminals which are constantly in contact with water.
We use it a lot on tipper wagons which are constantly trawling through mud ect...
Really good stuff.

another good suggestion with the scotch spray...we use it in work for our under water battery testing to coat the terminals before they get plugged and submerged

i have been told of a pug 306 diesel, 2002ish age and only 100k on it, thinks it got a bit of test and probably not much more than £300 to buy...no idea what pugs are like as ive never owned one...its french though

That should be the 2 litre HDI 90bhp, my missus has got one, nice car to drive and it's been fairly reliable (touch wood) they can chew through front suspension bits, so expect to check/replace the bottom ball joints, rear bushes on lower wishbones (swop for peugeot partner part it's stronger), anti-roll bar drop links and suspension top bearings. The clutch is heavy, it's a fault with the cable route, if you swop it it will be heavy again inside a year.

Electrically you need to keep the earths under the bonnet clean and the rear wipers are known for seizing up and blowing it's fuse. Other than than they are a great car and I would happily buy another.

I work on boat electrics, more often than not we find problems where sillycu*t sealer has sealed the water in rather than keeping it out, if you have a known weak spot first try and stop the water getting in if you can or open up the ecu (or whatever) and cover it in vaseline to keep the water from effecting it also try to have a drain hole at the bottom so it can't hold water.

You mentioned the Pug -I have had a few Pugs -no probs, the diesel motor was a cracker-think its a joint thing with Citroen, but anyway, I swapped for an Opel (Vauxhall) Corsa diesel as it was a good deal, I hammerd that thing, just kept on running, 190, 000 on the clock, traded it in to a scrappie for a trailer and other stuff, he was driving around in it when I saw it last.
Got an Opel Combo now, 320,000 kilometres on the clock, water gets in to the drivers footwell which I believe is a problem on the Corsa as well sometimes. Not stopped the car going tho, and as you are in Wales you probly drive in Wellies anyway.
Sometimes water gets in from below,as we bikers know, might be worth checking? good luck with sorting it

The problem with a lot of these suggestions is getting your hands on it, however thermite is a piece of cake

i tried making thermite ages ago but it it never burnt hot enough to melt steel so i assume i got the ratio wrong or the powder was too corse maybe


the renault lives again...just.

put the ECU back on and covered all the plugs in silicon grease. it didnt want to start at first, just kept spinning over as if it wasnt getting any fuel but a few blasts of easy start got it going and it seems to run ok now

pug 306 diesel

My son had several of the pre-hdi engined 306's and whilst the electrics were no better than any other french car the engine worked well with bio diesel. He did 30+k miles per year in them and the consumable bits were readily available and not too costly. seem to remember them mostly lasting to between 175k and 200k

he moved on to other vehicles when they became scarcer as the hdi engine isn't so good on bio diesel

Thermite is easy to make. getting the correct ingredients is the hard.
I know the bay has the basic stuff, but it is not quiet right.
But it can be done.
Black powder is very easy.
Nitro, can be done. But it is not something I will say is safe to do.

ive made black powder before, just for fun really but i loaded some shotgun cartridges with it and they worked reasonably well. took an age to clean the gun though.

when i made it i used common rust that i had salvaged from my scrap bin and i took a flap disk to an ali bar and contained as much of the dust as i could. it burnt hot but not as hot as it should be. think i mixed it as 5:3 in favour of rust
