How to open my HR2450 Makita hammmer drill ?

I have removed the 4 decent length screws that can be viewed from looking at the chuck perspective. This gas permuted me to open the case only slightry, about 5mm.

I am unsure what wil be preventing full separation and removal of the two halves of the casingredients. From the back view of of the handle there is one screw at the to and two screws at the bottom of the handle. I have not removed these. Thought it best to seek advice from those more knowledgeable than me- so 99% of the members?

could just be the motor brushes catching?

might be hung up on the brushes, remove the rear top most screw and look

my guess anyway

edit: type the part number into google, can usually find an exploded diagram that way, always useful for tool tinkering

The handle is a one piece so removed all 3 screws.

If you want to open the mechanical part you need to remove the selector first (drill-hammer drill- hammer) usually by removing a screw or by depressing the locking button, and moving the lever pass over a function selection ,I believe drill in this case .
Once over the lever can be pull out .
You will need to remove the SDS chuck components , starting from the rubber end , following with the plastic part you move up and down to disconnect the bits
You would most likely find some sort of elastic ring or Seeger keeping all together.
Or even just the ball detent for the bit.
You have to press down the ring which Keeps the detent/s in position, remove the ball and or the Seeger.
Now releasing the pressure you'll be able to remove at least 3 components the up above mentioned ring ,a spring, and a spacer washer .
Now you may find a Seeger or not ,if it's there remove it.
Push on the tool holder and the plastic housing can slide out .

In some cases it's possible to remove the entire assembly by just removing the selector lever.
But you'll struggle to put things back together because the tool holder it's connected to the clutch and the cylinder , pistons contains the hammer slug .
Those parts have tight tolerances and have to be already assembled together prior to reassemble everything.
It can be done but is a PITA

I opened this machine up because it started smoking yesterday and smelt like burning. I was working with gloves on, and I believe I inadvertently had my hand over the air vent-intake or out?.

By looking closely, are there any obvious signs that I have burnt it out?

I have had this drill from new, and it has had very little use. It will run, but clearly I have done something to it. I tried it later without load for a few seconds, and it was slow and there was a burning smell

Are the brushes worn out? There are signs of arcing on the commutator.

Armature or most likely field failure
Makita parts are very cheap change them both +brushes

I just took this photo with the tablet device.
The only thing that l can see which looks odd is some sort 'hollow areas' on the armature near the pen nib.

I have always presumed the hollows are when the armature has been balanced during manufactur?

And once you know the part number, search eBay with it. I have been lucky once or twice and found NOS, boxed genuine parts cheaper than from Makita dealers.

I have some wire wool to clean the part of the armature where the brush conduct.

I'm not so sure that Makita parts are that inexpensive.
