Mart I would not be using wirewool. It fragments to much. Bit of fine glass paper and a light rub round the copper segments. Then a small fine file to scrape/clean between the segments.
Oh well talking about a 30 years old demolition hammer ....I'm not so sure that Makita parts are that inexpensive.
I've got a HM0810 Demolition Hammer, it's a great bit of kit and new today it's £319.00.

I'm not so sure that Makita parts are that inexpensive.
That is where metal has been removed for balancing.I just took this photo with the tablet device.
The only thing that l can see which looks odd is some sort 'hollow areas' on the armature near the pen nib.
