Yes thats the thinking, except my tractors is only a two wheel european walk behind tractor like a BCS, or a Ferrari or a Valpadana or Grillo, so it will easily hang from the C or Z beam,

For extra credit, can you show this in two colours, one indicating the tensile members, where he can use his 40 x 5 flat and the other indicating the compression members, where the 40 x 40 x 4 angle would need to be used.

Since he has not specified the intended purpose, he can use whatever he likes as far as I am concerned. I am somewhat alarmed to discover it actually may be a bridge of some sort.

Hi Screwdriver, no its not a bridge, and no need to worry, its a beam to support about 150 to 200 kgs spanning 2m,

@ Screwdriver no it is definitely not a bridge, I would build a bridge from Volcanic stone of which we have a lot of here, its going to be a beam, I am a carpenter, boatbuilder, and have built all sorts of things including 3 of my own sailing yachts from scratch including aluminium masts and rigging and a few houses, a couple of barns etc etc, as I said definitely not a bridge, just a beam, from what material is available to hand, if it doesnt work I have an old telephone pole to hand, and also a workshop full of dimensional lumber, to experiment with
Just wanted the best strongest most elegant solution using available materials, thank you for your concern though

a light dusting thats what and thats it compared to us northerners

some of us northerners get scotlands snow due to the area we live in

It was more in the hope that it could be helpful to him to know that, since if his material choice and supply is limited, it gives more options in its construction. Specifically, what is not a good idea is to use the flat as a strut, but anywhere there is a a tension member, flat or angle could be used interchangeably.
