How to increase audio volume on a laptop ?

there is no software that will increase the volume while keeping a decent level of clarity the amplifier in the laptop is what it is.
running any amplifier past its limits will cause it to clip which causes Dc spikes to be produced which in turn damages the speakers as speakers use only ac, more speakers are damaged through clipping rather then over powering

I was using a Toshiba at work that was the same - very low volume levels and despite my twiddling the volume control at the front and searching for fancy drivers or 3rd party software, nothing doing. VLC will give you extra volume, but not much use if you're streaming stuff.

The problem was well known in t'internet.

I bought new windows7 laptop last year, took it back after just a few days as the sound was quiet even at full volume.
Tried a few other versions of the same model in the shop, all were quiet so I guess it was just a "low volume" audio system fitted to that model rather than a fault.

I told my old man, he needed one of those as while he wears hearing aids, they are omnidirectional, so while in a group he still cannot define one persons speech over the other conversations within the group or close by.

I remember my Grandad's hearing aid, it had earphones, a microphone, the amplifier and a battery box. He was so deaf he couldn't hear the feedback whistle whilst everyone in the room was shouting at him to turn it off!

60 years later it's cool to wear headphones connected to a plastic box!
