How much do you spend on tools a month?

Usually way more than I'd like. I'm already over £1100 this month.

id say a couple hundred month

but some times i buy for friends and family son wants x amount of items mates say i could do with etc i keep an eye out

i buy mosly upgrages now as i got most stuff and the only things i need(lets face it want but dont realy need are rare used items that i can hire when need arises)

and for the last years (as most of yous people that met me know what i now do for a living) before used my tools in part of my job now every day

Well so far this month just £12 on a new yard broom, and nothing else on the horizon!

When I do my books at the end of the year - I split my tool spend into two defined groups.

Tools/handtools/power tools/drill bits - which averages about £1500 to £2000 a year.

The other group is plant - (diagnostic kit - scopes - lifts - compressors - air con machines) - some years this can be nothing - other years this could be £10k+

I am consistently buying things that get lost broken or worn out (or I just fancy them). I don't think twice about buying or replaceing hand tools.

But big items of plant - I ponder over the spend for ages - I plan for upgrades well into the future (it is the part of the spend I don't like forking out for).

i had to go in to rymans for a couple of photo copys the other day send them off for xyz (took them to work but forgot so easier to spend a bit than time going back to work to copy id expected a few quid for 2 pages

went in asked how much said 30p each ok thanks i said was cheap he said you dont even know i get moaned at for 30p a sheet

how do they make money £2300 grand mechine a person sevring at x amount an hour paying shop rent

For hobby tools, I'm going to say £50 nowadays. Sometimes a bit more, sometimes less.

Kind of at the stage where I have 2 of most things these day.

Kitchen one has a split lip, so stuff goes under it . . . the garage one is split so stuff falls out - so I justified the out of the ordinary spend due to need

I spend around 300 euros on tools almost every month, some months more other less , it's very variable data .
I'm employed as machinist but I do like be able to do everything I need to do at home for my own stuff.
+ I do other jobs like power tools and equipment repairs on my own for third person.
Then I have a project car and I've included materials for it in the data.
I consider myself a professional hobbyist because 80% of the jobs are for myself , the others are for friends and customers which makes me gain a little income which guess what? End up on tools and projects.
I should seriously quit buying stuff till I get better organized , but I'm an addicted tool buyer and I am enough lucky to find many bargains I cannot say not.
I think that metabo Fein Abarth and fluke stuff are my ruin + is coming the edging fishing season so yet more money.
I should quit smoking again to have more spare money

Nowt wrong with that. You're spending your money on something which pleases you. We never know what each new day will throw our way. I work on the principle that I could be no more tomorrow, so enjoy today.

Hobbyist now but was a vehicle mechanic until about 7 years ago, I've probably averaged £60-70 a month over 20 years, but maybe only 20% of that in the last 10 years and almost nothing for the last 3 years, hobbies probably account for more than half of what I have spent.

I've got most of the kit I need at work now, odd bits off the Snap-on van, try to keep that at £100 a month.

Probably most expensive single item spend for me has been tool boxes.

I bought a lot of M12 gear for home, and a lot of my tools I've bought twice (for work and home) but I never see tools as anything but an investment.

My lad uses our stuff at home so having good quality kit makes doing jobs a lot nicer imho.

Probably did £700 in Snap-on ratchets 6 months back but use them all the time.

Mulling over an M18 Mid Torque 1/2 gun for home, still haven't decided on that one yet. Maybe when my lad buys his first car (not long now).

This month nothing, last month £32( set of torx screwdrivers) month before think it was £50/60 ( 2sets of impact sockets and a adapter set) Cheap on sale and my pal works in the shop so I used his discount too. Other months I spend nothing on tools

i used to be a bit bad at this but not now a days if i spend a few hundred (to be honest not normaly that much as realy only buy hand tools not mechines like some on here) i just say how much it is i need it i need it thats it i earn money from my tools and they make me much more than they cost

now do i need to upgrade to brushless or have 3 of some thing now thats what she may not know as she dont keep a track of that (i have had you not got one of them ? oh no this is differant is my reply as she has no clue )
