Lost all my carrot seedling to slugs, snails, and a couple of pigeons. But I am happy to say that I picked my first cucumber of the season this morning.
Also found a very handy source of gardening tips.

Sadly, no. But I can introduce you to her, I believe she is looking for a fungi to be with.Is that you? I now how a male spider happily goes to his doom
Have you got pipe work to bring in power , water & a floor drain for scrubbing out drainage ? Having them in the floor before erecting the glasshouse is cheaper & easier than retrofitting in a few years time when you realise how much better things would be if you had them in place .Just laid a foundation for a greenhouse, which should arrive in the next 2-8 weeks giving me enough time to get sorted ready for next year.
Current garden is looking an absolute tip from having garden walls rebuilt after storm which involves moving a lot of things for access
I had planned to put pipework under the shuttering, but had given my left over mdpe pipe to a neighbor for their allotment and forgot to get a length of it back until it was too late. Will be digging a tunnel under the concrete in the next couple of days to sort.Have you got pipe work to bring in power , water & a floor drain for scrubbing out drainage ? Tip,I'm part-way through eating my first home grown lettuce, and the tomato plants are starting to produce tomatoes. Also there are potatoes around, I thought I'd cleared the patch but no.
Cheers. It's not so much the space, just that they've all (all four of them) turned up at the same time and there's only so much lettuce I can eat. I planted a couple of rows of them, and of onions, but it's just swamped with potatoes that shouldn't be there. I'll have to clear it properly next time.Tip,
If you don't want to use too much ground for lettuce growing , get the curly leaf lettuce Lollo & Lollo Rosso or the new string/ lace lettuces , you only need one or two of each type for the whole year .
Some plant stalks actually produce a sugar solution for several days after the plant has been cut Borage aka Star flower for one . All bees go crazy for it as it's in far bigger quantities & a better quality sugar than out of flower heads which only produce nectar if it is warm& humid enough & not too hot.Talking of dandelions, I try to remove the yellow flowers before the seeds start to spread. I leave them on the ground somewhere so that bees can still get the pollen from them - am I wasting my time? Do bees actually take pollen from the yellow flowers if they're lying decapitated on the ground*, or will they only be interested if they're still alive? I don't want to deprive the bees, but I don't want dandelions all over the place either.
I'm fighting a losing battle as several local gardens have so many that they look like they're farming them commercially, but I like to at least try.
(* ETA - the flowers, not the bees. I categorically do not endorse decapitating bees and leaving their bodies lying around as some sort of warning to the others.)
