Household Air Con

Thinking about getting a compact portable air con unit on the landing to take a bit of the heat out of the upstairs bedrooms before bedtime. Would something like this be OK for 4 bedrooms?

Not looking to chill the whole upstairs, just make it more comfortable.

I have 2 in my house 1 in sitting room other in my bedroom they will only efectivly cool one room

Yes thinking landing next to family bathroom, can put the duct out of the window.

unless u core drill the wall and put a vent in u put em out the window I put mine in cupboard and up in to the attic

Ive got 2 mobile units in my house and bring them out every summer...what they dont tell you correctly is the rear piped exhaust needs to go outside (window or door) and they throw out water (outlet pipe on front) and needs to be collected in a bucket or bowl which means the machine must be higher than the water collecter....bit of faffing around with them but once sorted its wonderfull sitting infront of one in the muggy weather

ive made a vented window panel that goes in place of my glass window and the one in my living room has the flexi pipe up the chimney

what I do is if ive been at work all day is I have a decent size blower from a warm air heating unit. I open all windows and back door put the unit in door and it can blow all the heat out of full house in 20 minutes and then use the aircons

I've got an evaporation cooler in the bedroom. Inherited from late father-in-law but works good enough to lower temp for sleeping. Nowhere as good as proper air con but a fraction of the price and no exhaust to route. However during winter I'll be looking on eBay for a proper unit if cheap enough

I installed split aircon, not that expensive (I picked up units at the end of a season for £200) and a lot better than portable units, quiet and much more effective. Also not difficult to install.

That is brilliant, very simple and most importantly doesn't need electricity. You can't say that about much these days....

Simple, no electricity but sadly absolute load of crap and will not work

no more expensive than the portable ones really if you shop around

Have to agree- loads about quite cheap if you shop around. 36c on my terrace today, still don't need to run mine constantly but a cool 22 inside.
