Painting small parts, I hope to end soon. I fiddled around with color selection for a long time. There will be a simple green hammerite, but this shade is not sold in the store. Mixed paints.

I was very surprised after doing a few machines myself is how much filler is used to achieve a flat surface on the castings...its this that is the hard part to remove and i found using a wire cup wheel in a grinder was better at doing it than a scraper.Scraping paint and putty soaked in oil, in places, to cast iron.
Dull exhausting work in the heat of the street, but it must be done.

I even have a needle impact pneumatic hammer for such purposes ... It was successfully tested earlier on fillers 8 mm thick in places. But not at this time. I will only scrape off the putty in the most greasy places, and where it is broken, down to bare metal and a little leveling sanding with sandpaper. Possibly thick sprayable epoxy or polyester primer. There is a place to spend working hours on more useful things, with a direct return. But to use a spitting, oiled machine "as is" is beyond my powers. The inner perfectionist rebels. I'm going to compromise. I wouldn't want to go back to repainting a lathe after a few years. The entire caliper group must be scraped. But first, assemble the lathe after cleaning and put it into operation. Take measurements, sketch a plan. Buy or make high-precision rulers. Some tools have already been purchased.I was very surprised after doing a few machines myself is how much filler is used to achieve a flat surface on the castings...its this that is the hard part to remove and i found using a wire cup wheel in a grinder was better at doing it than a scraper.
Bought for work, not my personal. But working for a shabby lathe disgusts me. It is difficult to clean and monitor the technical condition if left with traces of 40 years of operation. The last turner that plugged it in was very lazy.Labour of love...is this lathe to keep and use or to sell?
Looks a very nice job..well done, look forward to seeing it built back up.
The preparatory work took about ~40 hours. Spray coloring ~40 minutes. The most enjoyable part of all painting work is removing the adhesive tape.Looks a very nice job..well done, look forward to seeing it built back up.
