I foolishly said I would look at doing some work on the rear suspension of my son's partners car, it is quite clean for its age:

So clonk from the rear and rear suspension arm, bushes need done:

The bush has gone!

So I start the strip down:

One shoe retainer missing, the other snapped during disassembly:

Spot the bleed nipple:

or lack off!

This is growing arms and legs:

Silly oversize wheels with tyres rubbing in the arch:

and don't look at the steering bellows!

Btw it's not a mk1 by quite a bit, more like mk3 or 4. The used some strange code to identify them, dependant on body type and engine I think. My daughters was older, think it was an EK9??

Thanks, I know nothing about them it, just googled, its a 6th generation (1995-2000), bar they have bought an unloved poorly maintained one that will cost more to fix than what its worth....

have a good look for other work that needs done,
rough costing of that.

Could be a Jap import with that square numberplate. Watch out when ordering parts.
Does it have an add on rear fog light?

Even if it was a Type R I'd be surprised if that was worth repairing.

Where that bush is missing there will be damage on the bearing surfaces.

Was planning on that, windscreen has a large crack on drivers side too!

Started to look at rear suspension mounts, it gets worse...much!

Had a poke with a screwdriver - it was just starting to hole and paper thin.

that whole section bends with finger pressure....

Have just put the wheels back on! the rest of the underneath looks good bar dents from it being excessively lowered and hitting things.

what a shame about the rust...
all the other jobs are easy.....
Out of interest....
On French car part sites.....
complete brake backplates are available, with shoes, cyls etc etc....
Only thing that would stop me keeping it other than the rust is if it's an AUTOMATIC....
it'll never be any good....it's a parts doner....

Think that's what they thought when I said I would replace the bushes. I suspect the new bushes are worth more than the scrap value of the car!
