Think that's what they thought when I said I would replace the bushes. I suspect the new bushes are worth more than the scrap value of the car!

TBH you have probably saved your son's partner, not only her/his life but also possibly being responsible for a serious road accident.

I agree with @Jackimus, it's not an ugly looking vehicle but is it worth repairing?

Funny enough I sent her a video of the underside, I described it as a death trap!

She loved the car, though have told her she needs to start again with a far better one that has been looked after.

Yup she needs to get another vehicle.

Maybe £200 scrap value--more maybe if broken up for parts.

Started to look at rear suspension mounts, it gets worse...much!

Had a poke with a screwdriver - it was just starting to hole and paper thin.

Have just put the wheels back on! the rest of the underneath looks good bar dents from it being excessively lowered and hitting things.

Looks like a PO loved to run along the beach with it.

She will not be allowed to buy cars unsupervised again I hope. We've all done similar when our hearts overruled our heads, I remember an Alfasud episode years ago. I spent more time welding it than driving it but I loved that car.

Now its a question of economics for her.

As I wrote, imo the vehicle is not a bad looking vehicle, the repairs are doable, how much would the repairs cost? bearing in mind it's unlikely the rust and defects won't be to just the rear end.

Forty quid a week, not too bad. My idiot neighbour spends £3000 per month on two lease cars!
Cars are always a dead loss.
Cheaper and easier to just buy her another car.

As someone who has welded up a few lost causes I have to say I wouldn't entertain that. The rot will extend much further than you expect.

Let me ask, as I've said I don't think imo it's an ugly look vehicle, ( subjectively ), but let me ask, regardless of like/dislike, if say a Ford Capri in the same state arrived on the possible end of your welder or spanners, would you consider repairing it, knowing how rare Capris have become, how once you couldn't give them away or at least peanuts swapped hands.

I am wondering if vehicle is worth repairing with that thought in mind? I suppose the answer to my question is only time would tell and could be asked of any vehicle.

Her last car was an Accord Type R, far nicer car and sold on as the rust had got the hold of it!

Been a while since that had an honest mot!

Even if it was a Type R I'd be surprised if that was worth repairing.

Where that bush is missing there will be damage on the bearing surfaces.

If it was a type R it would defo be worth repairing. If it was a hatch it would be worth a few quid, but the saloon? Not what the yoofs are after to put the k20/24s into - unless things have changed, google it, you may be surprised.
