Yes, we still use arooneeum wiring for the entrance cable to the main panel (the 200 amp feed), the problem was with wiring to individual sockets around the home.@Erie Fred , I believe there was/is a big problem with aluminium mains wiring in USA homes due to expansion/contraction/corrosion and material creep at screw-terminal connections.
What has been improved since the home wiring problem that I heard from some people in the business:
1. dual usage connectors (al/cu) IIRC there is a different plating on the hardware now.
2. usage of a paste on aluminum connections, IIRC it has some form of abrasive in it to crunch in when tightened, breaking the oxide layer.
