Im still working unlike you lot (Construction design manager) should be a half day tomorrow and off until 5th Jan.

But..... I will be super busy anyway every day welding and restoring at my cars. Welding gear and supplies at the ready

I'm back today and went into the office this morning, not a word of thanks/sorry nothing.
Literally nothing not a word out of that manager.
An easy day on site today and paperwork tomorrow then Christmas eve on holiday until the 5th.

Working until the usual time Christmas eve. Back in Monday after - at least I thought I was, seems I'm allocated working from home next week. I won't argue, even if I do enjoy the very much quieter commute in on the days inbetween

I had to go to Norwich today and the seem far quieter already.

So many managers these days don't seem to have clue. We don't do any of these jobs for slaps on the back, constant praise, or ego feeding, but then they wonder why no one wants to help out. Jeez.

We would be thanked by our supervisors, but not by the managers as the downtime would have eaten into their bonuses.

I worked for my Dad from aged 16 to 18. In his garage...

Aged 18 - I opened my own garage - 41yrs late I still trading out of the same premises.

I rented it at the start - then I bought it from the Landlord.

I had 41yrs of the bottom end - bargin basement - end of life car repairs.


I must be able to do it - as I would have starved to death trying if I could'nt....


But retirement cannot come quick enough - my patience is running out!

I was an apprentice from 16 to 18, then went self employed as a mobile mechanic in my mini van, then rented, took a partner, dumped the partner, rented bigger workshop, eventually bought freehold................................. retired, never made much money but when I packed up several old customers came in to help me clear out of the 14,000 square foot building as I was getting nowhere quickly,

I used to work right through. Worked minimum 14 hours a day 7 days a week normally. Maybe Christmas day I'd have s half day.

Have a gf now and better work life balance, half day christmas eve off christmas day :-)

Honestly.... i did love it

Still do... but I've ruined my back going back to work too soon after an accident, can't do 10% of what I used to and it's driving me crazy.

Unfortunately once you injure your spine it’s rare to ever get back to the condition of a young man’s spine, even if you have two or three corrective surgeries. Once you accept this and start thinking of how you can do things using different ideas & techniques life starts to improve . It took me several years to get the acceptance of my injuries into my dumb skull. During this time I re educated myself way above school , technical engineering school stuff & normal university .

Down to a skeleton crew at our place for xmas eve, possibly 4 out of 12 in... with luck the boss will wander in about lunchtime, wave a munificent hand and send us on our way.
Then I should probably get some xmas shopping done

I have worked loads of Xmas eves till 5/6pm - several Boxing Day mornings till lunchtime (then home for beer/cold meat/jacket potatos).

But I have never worked a Xmas day ever in the whole of my life.
