The pointer says 1000c, but I’ve no what of checking that. The bloke kicking a tyre test says it’s flipping hot. Annealed the metal niceWhat is its maximum rated temperature? A muffle furnace like that could be very handy. I've been using my normally-aspirated propane forge for occasional heat treatment. An oven like yours would eliminate a lot of the messing about and guestimation for fuel-air mixture and temperature...much more convenient to simply flip a switch.
Bloody part timer. and Here’s me thinking your a doctorI can assure you that I wouldn't be pushing it (personally), I may be cheering the fellow on though![]()
This is my proper chopper. Haven’t found a beast big enough, yet.....It looks a canny bit thicker in the pictures , I was just wondering if the chopper/clever type blade will have enough weight to it .Looking foward to seeing it done .
They told me that I can't be one any moreBloody part timer. and Here’s me thinking your a doctor

If I get stuck can I ask you for help?looks goood, just remember to use the correct RPE when working with the carbon fiber
A suggestion. Take a 1"x 3" scrap board about 16 inches long, and on one end attach a a 4" grinder with tape, jubilee clips, or whatever and basically set it up as you would a filing jig. Should save you a lot of time roughing the blade in.View attachment 324536
The next operation is to make the bevels. I always struggle with this. Gonna dig out the bevel filing jig and have a practice on some scrap
Cut another bit off the saw blade and use that to test, don't keep quenching the knifeI’m struggling to harden this
heated once to 900 then 1000c. Both times quenched in oil. A file isn’t skating off like it should.
next one is 1000c then quench in water
Any suggestions for hardening mystery metal?
Too late now, it’s just had it’s third quench. I think it’s worked.Cut another bit off the saw blade and use that to test, don't keep quenching the knife
you could work up an appetite filing all dayOne whole day filing with a bas tard file that was a complete bas tard as it’s blunt
This is what I have, both sides done, needs a tickle on the linisher to get to the edge, holes in the handle for some pins then heat treatment
