I was short some screws last week while working out of the carFor those that don't speak American or old
Popped into an old style hardware shop a few buildings down and asked for some 4x45s
Both me and the chap behind the till struggled. The owner nailed the imp conversion and pulled a box out.
Never worked in Imperial. Means nothing to me.

As a plumber we only had one size screw, 2" 10.
I was with some engineers this week, measuring things in cm instead of mm, and struggling with steel pipe sizes

Anyone who gives me a dimension in centimetres gets a metaphorical slap. Metres or millimetres I can deal with but cm I'll leave to the kitchen fitters and dressmakers

As in 1.1250" (Inch and an eighth)? Totally necessary if you're turning/milling/grinding.

Decimal feet were used in building/civil engineering surveying here in UK. My boss used to tell me of his time as a site engineer using them. He said that is how the levelling staffs were graduated, but the drawings were in standard imperial units, so you had to convert.

I see a lot of stuff written as "0.063 thou" when they are trying to express 1/16 of an inch. There's people working to some high levels of precision in their sheds.

Pipe sizes are an odd one though... I have to get the chart up to check I've got the right stuff.
4" schedule is 4½" od and 3¾"id. No part is 4'
once you get to a certain size though, the od is the same as the size, 16"schedule is 16"od.Yet 4" dairy pipe is 4" od.

As a man who's spent 3 days fitting a kitchen I can confirm I work down to 0.5 mm
What catches me out is DPD/parcelforce etc.
I end up trying to book parcels
750cm X 300cm X 200cm and the system has a paddy

I got caught out on that a couple of weeks ago with parcel force , couldn't understand why it kept saying my parcel was to long " try another courier "

metric measurements are a lot easier than imperial but i was brought up in the middle of the change over so i can relate and use both wasnt good at the time but it is now

I use metric only tape measure in workshop, nothing worse than trying to measure something and it’s on the imperial side.

No wonder it took 3 days if you can't get the cabinets all the way to the floor
Floor in this one is good for a change. Within 3 mm around the room.
****** me off I can't buy a metric only tape unless I buy online.
Usually break at the worst moment and have to grab whatever I can
