Heatshrink & solder terminals

I have been using these type of things for a while, hit them with a hot air gun and they shrink down and solder a join in one operation


I'm looking for the same thing but ring terminals, spade terminals and so on.
All I can easily find is the butt connectors.
I did find a couple of places in the usa but wondered if anybody knew of a uk supplier or, ideally one of those 500+ piece assorted kits of them to get me started?

I thought that at first but looking at the ones you can buy from the US they look identical. Might be worth a call/email to see.

Nothing. I have the kit to do it properly.
I'm looking for something to use on the quick & dirty jobs

They seem to work fine,
A cordless hot air gun is enough to do them so the main advantage of them is speed & convenience.

The solder seems to flow in well, obviously there is a limited amount of it so if you strip the wires too far back and heat them for too long it ends up a bit thinly spread!
It's not as strong as a (proper) mechanical crimp but takes a fair bit to pull one apart. Definitely stronger than one of the plastic covered terminals done with a cheap tool at any rate..

Like I say, If somebody was paying me to rewire a horsebox or I was doing something on a boat while it was out of the water for the winter, these wouldn't get a look in.
Although, mainly, because I don't have much use for butt connectors on jobs like that.

If a farmer is parked on the road outside with a 30ton silage trailer at 7pm and wants to go silaging and the lights are not working..
Then I would consider these an upgrade over the choc-block and insulation tape he would be getting otherwise..

I really like them (the heat up shrink and solder things), great when you wasn't a nice waterproof join, and easy to do in those places where you'd straggle to hold the wires while you solder them normally

I 'think' it's some sort of low temperature solder? - I've never tired melting solder with a hot air gun but I've always assumed the heat shrink would burn long before normal solder temperatures?

never through about them with ring/spade connectors on the end etc.... good idea, if anyone fines some I'll by some too!

I am also surprised you can melt the solder properly with a heat gun, without destroying the plastic.
Amazing what they come up with these days!

Silver loaded solder has a lower melting point.

I've bought some on ebay, but feel a little hard done by; didn't read the quantities on the listing properly & ended up with a fraction of what I thought I was getting.... rookie mistake... Only been using ebay for 20 odd years.

Thanks, I'd love to use them more often but the price put me off.

The 'solder' is probably Field's metal or something similar. That will be why they are so expensive. Melts at 62 degrees C.

So presumably it's not much use in hot environments as it can melt again and the connection can be lost. (Granted the heatshrink might hold the wires together some.)
