It won't stop them, but it is a deterrent.
If WiFi extends to the area, I would suggest an external Blink camera linked to an alarm for MD, quite cheap really and possible follow up for police.
I would also put up some pretty stern signage in terms of CCTV coverage and alarmed - again just a deterrent.

I walk the dog with a lad that installs and monitors cameras on the railway line between Leeds and London, he was telling me the other day thefts of cable from the railways has shot up again with the cost of living, the worst spot is around Sheffield. The method of choice at the time for doing the sucking was an IBC with a vacuum pump on it while they’re driving. When they get to the tank,
Pumps off and the vacuum does the work silently.

All crime prevention is about is moving it on so just the usual - screen the tank from the road, lights, cctv etc etc. you won’t beat them but you might make them move on. A gate wouldn’t hurt either. That lot don’t like being penned in or having their escape route cut off.

That’s the problem. They are untraceable. A lot of them don’t even exist. They use homeless people to do the risky stuff, usually coerced / modern slavery.

The vehicles are an insurance nightmare and sorting out the identities of who’s who is such a massive pain in the hoop even traffic leave them alone unless it’s blantant. For the simple reason you’ll waste hours and be no further forward!!

Police are doing a great job the vast majority of the time, but most people they collar get released, or just given a pittance of a fine

Also the police genuinely have better stuff to do than look into suspicious vehicles/activity. There are just too many around, most reports lead to nothing. It's only when a crime occurs that it's actually worth their time to look into it.

Not saying any of that can't be improved on, but that is the reality at the minute

Just thought. Could you put a plastic tank inside the steel one? I.e. cut an end off, fit plastic tank, weld it up again, then have an obvious filling hole to put water in (around the outside of the plastic tank) and a discreet filling hole/outlet for the oil (inside the plastic tank)?

trouble is the next step is the guards need armed to defend themselves ,, and then the crims need armed to ward off the guards ...


then the uk becomes America ,, and thats no good thing.
