One of those chinese diesel night heaters might be a good investment so you could keep one room warm. At least diesel isn't rationed yet so a few jerry cans salted away might be insurance next winter for minimal outlay if this madness continues. Just a thought.

We ordered oil, quoted 80p per litre, should have been delivered on the 6th. No show. Wife contacted them and got ignored, on the 11th we got an email asking if we still wanted our delivery. Replied yes. Email back it’s 113p per litre, no you quoted 80. No reply, wouldn’t answer emails or phone calls. Oil came 113p. They aren’t helping themselves. Thankfully what we have in the tank will see us till the winter.

Thats the panic buying mindset.

Leave it, its spring we dont need much heating now. Things will calm dowm again, they always do. Previous war fuel price spikes only last a month or two.

The problem is I think a lot of people top around now after the expense and quite at work Christmas period, like you say if you can hang on it will drop but I get the feeling it's going to be a while

I'm ok I'm on mains gas and I've 2 tonne of coal and 3 of logs.
Proper prepped me

A farm I lived in had an old private coal mine up the back. The settlement pond was pure coal dust that had gone solid and could be dug out in squares like turf.
That was proper prepping.

Used to joke with the missus about being that old couple, living in fuel poverty in one room.

Whacked up a couple of red, garage storage hooks and an old trampoline pole to hang some mismatched curtains between the unheated dinner bag room and lounge now being heated (barely) by a 2.2kW oil filled radiator.

In those days I had a knackered old Morris Minor, looked like it was scrap. We were parked up in a local err “beauty spot” having a cuddle in the back when up drives a police car. Copper wanders over, pulls open the door, shouts “Christ, there’s someone in there” & beetles back to the patrol car & screams off down the road.
