Heating oil increase this morning

My daughter who lives in the flat at my parents house (where she's been unofficial support for her Grandfather whose been in hospital these last 3-months & is gravely ill)..... just found out the house is nearly out of oil.

Dammit. Just what you need.

Current prices are just mental.
(I've got one of those propane tankless instant water heaters which I'm going to set up for her tomorrow as a "just in case" - and see just how much oil there is left & what we can eke out).

Blimey. Boilerjuice aren't even quoting here. I have 1300litres or so though so have a bit of time. Will turn all the boiler timers and stats down!

I’m on 1 bar of oil, probably about 100 or less litres left, Hoping weather warms up. I was going order last week, can’t see a palm face emoji.

You get roughly 10kwh per litre of oil. It won't be cheaper to run direct electric heating until if/when oil is roughly 10x your electric price. There are a few inefficiencies to consider but oil at 150ppl isn't as expensive as most people's electricity. I doubt electric costs will be reducing either.

I'm hoping to almost completely stop oil consumption next week for the summer. Hopefully there'll be a new normal, even if not a significant drop, in prices in a few months time.

Hope all this current heating oil prices aren't going to make me regret removing the boiler stove that we had tied into our system, was inefficient and needed pumps etc, so prevented use of fire in a power cut!

I know I have one for that very reason. But the controls were never right, burning coal or ovals it wasnt too bad, if I switched the boiler off. But on logs only wasn't man enough to run the house. So a decision was made for a log burner only, now Ive got to live with it.
