With paypal there is of course a real downside, their T&C state you have to accept it or else etc etc etc BUT
If you sell an item and let the buyer collect and pay with paypal, they can claim the item has not been received and obtain a refund and paypal will offer no help at all to the seller.
You can take a photo of the buyer collecting the item, their car reg, make them sign a collection note or if a real sadist draw a pint of blood for DNA... no difference, Ebay accepts nothing as proof except signed for and tracked delivery, your evidence would probably be good for a court case but who want's that hassle.
They charge you to accept your money for you, as a financial institute they loan out that money and charge interest yet pay none to you, got a good thing going there.
So although I am aware I have to offer paypal as an option on collection items, it will never happen and they can pull the listings as much as they like.
