With paypal there is of course a real downside, their T&C state you have to accept it or else etc etc etc BUT

If you sell an item and let the buyer collect and pay with paypal, they can claim the item has not been received and obtain a refund and paypal will offer no help at all to the seller.

You can take a photo of the buyer collecting the item, their car reg, make them sign a collection note or if a real sadist draw a pint of blood for DNA... no difference, Ebay accepts nothing as proof except signed for and tracked delivery, your evidence would probably be good for a court case but who want's that hassle.

They charge you to accept your money for you, as a financial institute they loan out that money and charge interest yet pay none to you, got a good thing going there.

So although I am aware I have to offer paypal as an option on collection items, it will never happen and they can pull the listings as much as they like.

I had two Nigerians turn up for a Diesel generator, cash on collection, they wanted to do a bank transfer from their laptop. I gave them the option of cash or some rebar wrapped round their heads, they chose to leg it.

That happened to a friend of mine, she sold a horse saddle for around £350 on eBay and got cash via PayPal, the buyer sent a 'friend' round to pickup the saddle and then the buyer reversed the payment saying she never received the saddle. As far as I know the saddle and money were never seen again.

No it's not!! You can still use the eBay system pay the eBay fees but declare your item as cash on collection. Local pick up is an eBay option and your still able to mark the item as paid for. I frequently put my items as cash on collection only and still pay my eBay fees when it's sold. Never had an issue. eBay have a problem if you agree to do the transaction outside of eBay to avoid the fee. Ie accept the buy now price, end the listing and sell it any way.
