Quite simply I object to any person denying me the right to refer to them as I see them. I respect the right of any person to see themself however they please, to dress, behave etc (in terms of gender) however they please but I also have the right to decide for myself how I see that person and I reserve the right to not subscribe to the idea of non-binary or gender-neutrality because that is my right.

If you are non-binary, that still makes it a binary choice

I have a sister who endured the same. Funny thing was, her husband was a weedy liitle lad at school but turned into a bully. Had weird, Bible thumping parents too, though that doesn't excuse it. She seemed to be attracted to that type sadly, my father had to go and get her away in the end.

Again, exactly why I’m glad to have grown up in the 80s/90s. All the silly things we got up to remain only in anecdotes between mates.

At one point, I ‘identified’ as a dog. When I was four, on all fours, eating out of the dog bowl and curling up next to the dog in the basket. My parents indulged this with a chuckle, and I soon moved on to being one of the Thundercats. What they didn’t do was phone up the school and ask that the dog thing be taken seriously.

That’s the point, really - children are not miniature adults. Their brains are ‘plastic’ (in the neurological sense) and highly impressionable, and current ones are being exposed to a whole world of ideas, where the most niche and subversive are given equal weight with more mainstream stuff. It’s up to adults to provide guidance.

I can't really understand people that have a problem with this to be honest. I don't consider myself as "woke" nor particularly political. But as I see it; I don't care how anyone wants to identify, him, her, it whatever. It's nothing to do with me.

I feel for people who don't fit into the very narrow band of "normality" that has been pushed primarily by religion and governments for centuries. If you dress someone in a way they don't like, and they ask you to in the future address them as something else where is the harm.

In my mind it's the same as if you identify someone as black or fat for a verbose example. They may well be either of those things but if they don't like to be identified by those characteristics a reasonable person wouldn't carry on doing it.

To those who say what about the people pretending they identify as a female to use female toilets or changing rooms or prison etc, I say everything is open to abuse. Some things are easy to solve, have a selection of male, female and unisex toilets or changing rooms etc. Then everyone can use what they like. Somethings will take time to sort out.

My main point is live and let live. We have no right to tell others how to live, so long as they are not hurting anyone. And life is way to short to get annoyed about a choice of pronouns.

I think that applies to many things, bullies etc. my daughters have friends with gender identity issues and they are not being coerced into joining them. I think this is something that probably only really exists in the minds of blue rinsed Daily Fail readers and is more likely if shoved under the carpet rather than letting people be open and honest.

But when I and, (I assume) all previous generations were growing up, pretty much no-one had gender identity issues. That I knew of, admittedly, but I can’t think of a single person in all my 42 years on this planet.

It seems that there’s always been a natural low, spontaneous occurrence of gender dysphoria. With the rise of social media has come a rise in what I see as induced gender dysphoria, almost like a virus spread by internet.

I think the difference in our viewpoints is whether you think the extra cases were just previously suppressed, or induced by suggestion, in vulnerable or impressionable people - those with ASD or other social disorders seem particularly affected.

This is a fair view point, though Im a bit older than you and do remember a few in the not sure where they were headed category. One sadly took his own life in his early 20s.

If you watch tv dramas playing in the old days through 30s, 40s, right through to the 60s, folk with gender or sexuality identity issues hid their true calling. Many were prosecuted or hounded for it. Now it has become far more open, teenagers are far more accepting now, than they were say 40 years ago. Sadly though with the openness have evolved these warrior types who want to raise all these things fast and furious to the forefront, perhaps a bit quickly. Because is so open main stream, on TV, in the media, many kids are getting over dosed with this stuff.

We had a couple of kids here last summer, one asked what gender are the alpacas, about 8 years old. At 8 to me the term gender is just adding confusion to their growing minds. Animals and people are male and female fairly simple really. The rest is just people being what they think they want to be. Or maybe Im just old fashioned and think all these things are progressing too quickly, probably adding to the confusion of the already confused.
