There's adjustment on the wearing bits. Gib strips on the ways and slides and the ability to expand the nuts of the screws to take up backlash.... However, wear won't be uniform so, unless you get very lucky, perfect adjustment won't be achievable, to a lesser or greater extent things will be loose in the middle and tight at the ends. The degree of tight-loose-tight as you traverse the length of a travel is a crude indicator of wear, before you can set up to measure things. No backlash on cross slide , but compound has a bit , must be adjustment somewhere ? , ways seem ok , no visible wear that I can see , only problem I have is the speed levers on top have no ball bearing and spring in so don't locate very well ! Need to havexa look at those .

I've got a problem with the crosslide the 2 bolts that lock down the crosslide angle are knackered , so I stripped it all down and tugged the studs out , the threads are stripped , so I need to replace them , would a knurling tool give me the splines on the end ?, I haven't got one so need to pick one up , are there types of knurl or am I barking up the wrong alley , how can I get the right pattern on these ?
