Thanks Roryexcellent work Scott
I think I'm about £2.5 - 3k into it now
Thats right, I've made no allowance for time there but that costs me nothing. And yes let's not dwell on the trivia.Cheap. I realise you have not quantified your time at (whatever sum) per hour. But still cheap because you get a really good accurate machine at the end of it. There is no way I would sell my M300 for twice that sum. Not with what it is and how it is set up. That would not include any tooling. It's best not to dwell on this trivia anyway..........
Also fitted a new shaft seal in the saddle, this stops coolant etc getting in to the apron.
The flow of coolant would be towards the other side of that seal so I believe its the right way round. If you're trying to keep stuff out then, strictly speaking, the seal should be fitted the other way round
Thanks @slimjimI have nothing to add to your post, only to say you’re doing an awesome job.
Thanks @slimjim
Fitted the apron to the saddle, bloody difficult holding that lump with one hand while getting the bolts started. I rebuilt the apron a while back and don't have any pictures of the process unfortunately, but it got all bearings, bushes seals and the half nuts replaced, and a new oil level sight glass.
Just wanna say this is looking like a superb restoration, hoping to do something like this myself in the future, just a random tip if you use all thread to pull the apron on or off, saves crushing your hand if you drop it
