Got the new lathe yesterday and started tearing it apart this morning.
So, I've got as far as clearing the bed and just wondering how best i go about cleaning it.
View through my trusty inspectoscope shows its pitted. I won't know for sure until it get it all reassembled but I'm hoping it isn't overly worn despite the pits.
I could have a go with the electrolysis method which would hopefully clear out the pits but is there any point other than cosmetics? Surely so long as I clear up the surface with some 0000 wire wool or 2000 grit wet&dry, whatever is in the pits can stay there? They'll only fill with stuff again anyway. Or is it best to remove all rust so it can't escape the pits in the future and act as a lovely grinding paste...?
