Yes but it's limited by it's programing.
Artificial intelligence is still a pipe dream.
It doesn't need intelligence.

Up until the point it encounters something outside the realms of its program doesn't know what to do and drives you under a bus.It doesn't need intelligence.

I’m with you, the sooner we get fully self driving vehicles the better. Take the slow thinking meatbrain out of the equation.I personally think it will make driving safer.
It did in 2016.Cant see that happening has it works on proximity to whatever is in front.
sit in the back seatwill it stop and bang the brakes on when a deer runs across from the side of road and jumps and goes through your screen or take evasive actionits lunacy and you just sit there with a 1st hand view

They left out 'but will cause 100,000 catastrophic ones!'I’d love to know quite how they calculate out statements such as thing: “Mike Hawes, chief executive of the Society for Motor Manufacturers and Traders, said automated technologies would be "life-changing" and could prevent 47,000 serious accidents in the next 10 years“

Is there any reason why you wouldn’t be able to still do any of that? (Genuine question, I’ve not actually read much about this stuff at the moment, but I would have thought you could still override the system with a dab on the brakes, same as with cruise control?)A computer won’t be able to see a ‘situation’ developing up ahead, it will just be able to react when the car in front slows suddenly because it hit the one in front of that.
Many a time I’ve watched people totally disregard something going on ahead, and totally run directly into the middle of a cluster crap of problems.
Seeing a car trying to join traffic ahead, I can judge how to manoeuvre to let it in with minimal disruption to myself and others.
Approaching a junction, where cars are waiting to turn across, I can slow, flash them across, release the 10 vehicles behind them, rather than just ignorantly block the road by pulling up across the turning cars intended route. Like the dozen cars in front of me just did.....
Before I ever used one I thought cruise control was a sure fire recipe for disaster, until I tried it one day, and found it to be a very effective way to travel, all the better to leave me to observe the road and traffic, without having to keep looking down and checking/adjusting speed.
Not with your hands down your trousers and porn on the display. Is there any reason why you wouldn’t be able to still do any of that?
