halfords pro tools

anyone got much experience with halfords pro gear?

bought some 1/2" drive sockets and an extension bar friday for a job on my fathers jag tomorrow...have just been having a look at them and they seem good quality, better than i was expecting at least

ive been thinking about upgrading my sockets, spanners and ratchet spanners from ebay specials to something a bit better so maybe halfords are worth a try?

high end of the tool scale but not high enough to mix it with the top 3 brands like snap on,Mac,or teng but imho a worthy 4th

good quality I have some of theres along with britool and some snapon stuff I got for nowt there nice to use

I've used the flex head ratchets, and in my last job they had a right hammering. I'd get another set tomorrow (at their usual sale price) if I had to, I really can't fault them. The chrome has stayed intact (seems really good quality actually), the ratchet mechanism hasn't flinched. I think their "normal" price is a bit steep (a bit like Dfs sofas) as its approaching facom type prices but they are always on offer at 1/2 price or so.

I have a couple of their socket sets but I've hardly used those so I wouldn't like to comment on their longevity, but the quality in terms of "general feel" seems as good as their ratchet spanners.

The Halfords Pro range used to be made By Sykes Pickervant. So were good.
While they are not in the same league of Snap On, Mac etc they are still good tools.
Plus they do a life time warrantee.

Yes, I forgot about those!! - I have the roll cabinet and top box and again they are regularly on sale and good value when they are.

I'm a serious hobbist and all my sockets spanned etc etc are Halfords pro. I use the stuff reasonably regularly and abuse it if I have to. It's all been serving me well since purchase, well over 15 years ago

didnt think about a roll cab box...that would be a nice addition.

i need to get a 30 and 32mm socket tomorrow morning as i forgot them friday so will have a better look at what they have...

did someone say lifetime warranty?

ah so you only get a warranty on something that will only break if you use it in such a way that it voids the warranty anyway, and the stuff that will wear out over time isnt included? sounds about right lol

that said i have had a 1/2" drive ratchet for about 8 years now and its my go to 'abuse' ratchet...i use it when i really cant get a nut to budge and hammer on it like im mad at it...i know ratchets arent designed to take that sort of abuse but it hasnt given up yet and it was 99p in the local cheap shop

The "pro range" are worth it for the guarantee alone: Lifetime, no quibble, no receipt needed, even covers moving parts (I'm not aware of anyone else doing that including Snap on). You only need to buy them once and you have them for life.

Possibly, but as @SIP-Free said above that was a fairly standard disclaimer - I seem to remember the same conditions in my facom 1/2 inch socket set which was much more expensive. anecdotally I've heard of people taking broken ratchets back and halfords exchanging them anyway which wouldn't surpise me as their staff are generally not going to be that clued up on the warranty thing.

Hf professional tools are all life time afaik.
They are pretty good tbf and I had a set of there spanners for a while as a site set and sold em on here to zzr. Despite people saying it very often they are not comparable to the likes of Mac , S-O, Facom etc but that's ok because they are a fraction of the price and certainly as good as any teng tool if you ask me.

Got quite a few halfords pro bits and never managed to break any of it. Only thing I don't like is a lot of their normal hex sockets are 12 sided which I hate, much prefer 6 sided. I prefer their spanners to the teng ones I have, purely due to the finish, no idea which brand is stronger though.

I swear by them. Have had snap on gear, great until you have to return it and in my experience the tool men always argue the toss and try work their way out of replacing anything. I've had ratchets exchanged by halfords with absolutely no argument, even when frankly it was a bit tenuous as to who's fault the failure was!
