Now the next question
what TPI do I need. Just tor general purpose metal bashing at home
I use 24 tpi cos they were a freebie.for metal bashing.........think you'll have more success if you use a hammer
I have two hacksaw frames and have a 18tpi blade in one and a 32 tpi blade in the other one. You can get 14tpi ones too if you want a courser cut
The were all eclipse HSSWhat make blades did your Grampy use Parm? I have a stock of old Eclipse blades and Bahco mentioned above I would favour as replacements. 3 teeth minimum in the thinnest part to be cut from memory. I have a collection of hacksaw with blades from 6 to 32tpi. Bi-metal are nice in shared saws.
24tpi if your cutting a lot of thin stuff and plastics and 18 for thick stuff . get some of each if doing both . i have 4 frames so 18tpi in 2 of them and 24 in others get a pot of cutting compound and smear blades with it . they cut faster and easier and blades last longer

Excuse my ignorance but i never thought to use anything like that with a hand hacksaw so i'm keen to try it.

Oddly enough, I use the same blades at home.
