I see your point.
I do still have control of my websites though.
It's not as if I can't see what is on the website.
As for the guy himself. I don't have a problem that he does a good job.
I have testimonials off people with a current site he has done.
It's purely the "hacked" side of Facebook that concerns me. I don't know enough about it to know if a scammer can write stuff that the real account holder can't see.

If ever you mention that your account has been hacked, on Facebook, you get deluged with spam/scam offers to rescue your account…. I’m sure there are search engines set up just to look for such victims.I'm absolutely flabbergasted you think that page is even remotely legit!!

To be honest I don't think I even entertained it being legit. But wondered if "anyone" is legitimate just lately.
I was watching a judge (they saw fit to televise his verdict/sentence) speak for several minutes only for the BBC to cut him off part way through and stick a quiz program on. The world is a mess. So is my Brain.

I guess they could but to be honest it's the sort of thing I would do whilst learning on a course. Offer free services to benefit us both.
I don't actually know what sort of damage could be done. I am eager to learn though.
The website is not really a must have for a real business. More of a hobby. I have backups I could get back up in mins.

That or they get the login details, lock you out and hold it to ransom - might even pretend it was done by third party hackers just to keep the scam running. Or if they think you're gullible enough they’ll ask you to install teamviewer/anydesk or some other remote client onto your PC to get access to your online banking and clean out everything you have.
As to the damage: friend recently got a nasty letter from a (legitimate) copyright protection law firm saying an image on his site was being used without permission and he owed a significant amount - not sure if it was hundreds or thousands- for licensing fees.
Now he was able to forward it to the company he used for his site template and they dealt with it. Where do you think you’d stand with your random Facebook friend?
I have Reseller account so I can give a developer a separate login where they can only access an individual account that I can get back up in minutes if needed. I would not accept team viewer or anydesk. That said it was amazing how easy I used to get given access for vinyl cutter driver installation via team viewer.
I dont have much so they cant get a great deal..
But I appreciate you highlighting things. Better safe than sorry. I was as much intrigued as to how anyone could cause damage with keywords and google etc.

Don't be too hard on yourself. Its always easy on the outside looking in. I fell for a scam when buying a van a couple of years ago, but I fell for it.
If I told you the whole tale, you, or anyone else would think, what an idiot, how could he not see that coming ?
I think it because you are trying to be helpful and make someones life easier, so the ideal victim..
I don't know anything about Facebook, but there are a lot of items on Marketplace that have been hijacked

All the photos uploaded on one day (14 may). Often their friends and following aren't real people but sites anyone can sign up to, to boost the numbers. Any people are usually equally dodgy. While it is not impossible someone local has lots and lots of friends in Nigeria, it is pretty unlikely.
Does new York (his supposed location) need front number plates? None in the photo, which is also common with the car wash scams.
Facebook is infested with scammers. Never buy anything without being able pick it Up, Cash on delivery.

I dont know if ultimately the plan was to deploy some plugins to support what he was doing for your wp instance "to learn seo", but... don't, unless you are capable or know someone who is who can code audit them and see any changes made and understand them.
Long story short, wp plugins are a soft target to gain access. Be it public known vulnerabilities, or introducing them deliberately in supply chain attacks or modified versions of things being uploaded.
Once a suitable wp plugin is on a server, you can own the server and take it over at will or lie low and live off the land watching transactions for months. Or just sell the access on the darknet where it has a value and let someone else do the next stage of the process.

I will post the exact wording. As I have said above , I am not even sure I want a high google ranking as that is not going to improve the time I have available short term to produce items in any quantity. Ironically I am not in need of a money making venture in reality (other than its not easy to turn down) but its been a dream of mine for many many years to have a functional website selling small quantities. Having got even more machines available and suppliers of quality graphics and even specialised software now becoming available, it seemed a way to fulfill a dream and teach my grandkids at the same time.

There obviously more and unless anyone is particularly interested I wont bore everyone with it.
But having done quite a bit of research to put my mind at rest if nothing else, I do believe the messages were more like to have been written by the real Brad Shaw, He is openly saying he has mental health issues , not helped by being on his **** cash wise.
As for going forward. I have not replied to him since he asked why I believed he had been hacked.. (He was alerted by a guy he writes websites for) I have spoken to the College and they do have digital marketting courses available but said whilst they had 4 Brad shaws enrolled no one with that name is on that course as far as she could tell. (I was surprised she told me anything to be fair given GDPR etc)
I think given Wozzah reply Its quite clear how you could end getting scammed while checking out the possibility of a scam (Not related) especially as it really does mess with your brain. The only thing I can compare it to is when fire firefighting its very easy to get heat exhaustion, that causes you to make different decisions to what you might normally make.
The possibility of being scammed causes you to potentially make strange decisions.

Not even complicated, which made it worse ............
I saw a van for sale on eBay. Photos included a mobile phone number. Nothing unusual in that, now that they have got too greedy with their fees.
Was the exact colour and spec I wanted. One owner private use and FSH etc. Not too good to be true cheap, but a bit under top money.
So I rang the guy. Sounded a wellish spoken older man, easy conversation, no hard sell, no pushing for a deposit. Told me he and his wife were in Devon at daughters house, looking after grandchild for a few days. So I asked if I could view it when he was back home on the Friday (this was Tuesday) OK he said, but there were a few people who wanted to look, so it might sell.
Not wanting to lose the ideal thing, I offered a deposit of £250 via Paypal. He said he didn't use Paypal, so would a bank transfer be OK ? He also said that he wanted a more than that, as he had been messed about before with small deposits and people not showing up. ( Remember all this was going on in a jovial and relaxed manner. I could also hear a woman's voice in the background and a little girl giggling) So as the van was £10k, and assurances that he would refund if I got there and decided it was not for me, as said I would transfer £2k.
So he gave me the bank details and his home address and phone number, and reminded me he would be there until Friday. So I rang off, and did the bank transfer, and sent him a text to confirm. Shortly after I got a text to say he had received the money, the deal was done, and would text me as soon as he got home on the Friday.
Later in the day, I looked at the photos of the van on the eBay listing. They were taken in the garden of a large house with a well kept garden. Then, so that I could work out my route (was about 90 miles from my place) and see where I was going, I put the address he had given me, in Google Earth, and looked at Streetview.
The house I saw was certainly NOT the one pictured on eBay. It was a modernish terraced house that was rather down at heel. Cut but scruffy grass, no flower beds of features, a couple of black bin bags leaning in a corner that looked like they had been there some time, peeling window frames, and grubby net curtains. Looked the sort of place where a very elderly person lived. THIS was when alarm bells started to ring !
So I rang his number, which went over to answering. Shortly after he rang me back, and I asked about the house I had seen. He said that it was his mothers house, and that was where he would be on Friday, as she had been ill, and the pictures had been taken at home. OK I said, and asked him the address of where the photos had been taken. He rang off. I tried the number a dozen times, even witholding my own number. No reply. Then I got that the number was not available.
By this time it was quite late, so went to bed. I tried again in the morning, same, not available. I got it into my head that I would drive to this address in Reading, and find out what was going on. SWMBO said not to bother, as it was most likely just some random address he had picked out, and to go to the Police instead. Which I did. Told to report it to Action Fraud line, which I did. Neither were any help, and I didn't hear anything further from either.
Of course by now I knew I had lost the money, and what a cupid stunt I had been. Kept trying the number of course. A few days later I went to Lloyds bank in our local town, as Lloyds was the bank the scammer used. They were completely uninterested and unhelpful, and they also told me to ring Action Fraud line. My own bank, Barclays, was next door but one, so I went in there, to ask if they could help.
Attitude was completely different. The young girl behind the desk listed to what had happened, and rang someone upstairs. A young woman came down to see me (looked like Stacey Dooley) and said to come upstairs and talk to them. They had a bank of computer screens and several people working. She quickly found out that this account was linked to fraudulent activity and was being investigated, and this had happened to several others. She asked me to fill out and sign a statement and a form, and then escorted me back downstairs, and that she would be in touch.
Just over week later I got a call to say that she was not at liberty to give details, but my account had been credited £2k. Which was great, and lesson learned, although I do tend to trust people, as most people are OK. But as I said, with hindsight, I should have seen it coming, but didn't.

Quite a scam but easy to fall for in the circumstances, glad you got ur money back.
You got very lucky there!, that's a great advert for Barclays as well as technically they didn't have to do anything to help.

Also add some completely false detail and see if he "remembers" it . That will prove he's not legit.
