Hi,
I have been using this welder sparsely for years, always in my workshop, where it is protected from dust, water, etc.
One day I decided to run it MMA and then the welder started malfunctionning. The cooling fan now runs continously (which should occur only in MMA) and the HF was not running at all until I unplugged/switched off the welder. Sorry this was some years ago so I don't remember well.
So, after this "MMA incident" I've been using the welder with the HF working somewhat randomly for years, but now things are becoming worse. The HF rarely (<30%) works today.
Yet I should be able to use the lift start, I am looking for alternatives, the first being repairing the welder. I can solder and am used to working with electronics.
Following its reputation, the GYS customer support was of rather little use in this respect.
Having wrote them that changing the board was not an option due to cheaper welders being available for the price didn't make them reply to the single question - for the relay is the only part I can easily change:
- might a relay be responsible for this sporadic behaviour?
Instead, they claim that it is a power unit (a huge radiator intricatingly assembled with the main board, where the power transistors are bolted hidden from the user... ) issue and just want me to sent them the welder...
Of course, almost everything being soldered on the main board, changing the board should solve any issue and this kind of default answer should be valid anytime, even for a likely control unit issue.
So the second alternative is changing the welder & here I am here mainly because UK offers much more possibilities in that area ;' )
