Depends on the police force involved, rural scotland should be fairly open to relaxed interpretation of the guidelines, compared to a large city/metropolitan force.

I personally know of a gun cabinet that is in the hall way of a house, 6mm steel plate body 10mm door with 3 mortice locks and dog bolts down the hinge side of the door. It is covered in wood venier and looks like a piece of furiture.

Just while you are all here and its the members interested in firearms, i have just heard those end of bells in the EU have passed laws banning the ownership of nearly all semi-auto firearms. The banning of magazines over 10 rounds capacity. Magazines being licencable components. Manditory mental and health checks etc etc.

Rural Scotland is as tough as anywhere else, when it was regional forces the one I was under was terrible to work with. I ask for help through one of the sporting organisations, they asked which force, when I told them, reply was good luck!

You can find all kinds of meaningless stickers on line. A friend of mine overseas had a sticker made up, well, more of a sign made up for his 700lb safe which read, " Improper entry sequence may result in death & or dismemberment ", and it was in two languages.

Really depends on what you need and what they'll let you have/keep, if you can justify your requirement.

I used to be able to hold 2500/buy 2000 .22 rim fire (for target shooting) and hold 700/buy 500 .308 win deer stalking, including some .22/308 win accelerator rounds for fox control, but ended up using very light hand loaded .30 cal bullet heads instead of the accelerator rounds for fox control.

I loaded all my own full bore ammo.

One of my fellow shooters at the time, had a totally open FAC, no conditions at all...

Kent firearms officers have never looked or asked for CE marks etc. Just looked that it is properly made and fixed and that the keys are not kept on top!

Yeah i have heard of keys hanging on a nail beside the safe "in case they got lost". A boob, and i do mean a boob, in our club was inspected. He ushered the copper into the spare bedroom, reached under the bed and slid out the safe ! Copper was not happy

There was a covert strategy in place in many parts of the world to limit guns, unfortunately it was blown wide open and is now common knowledge that most Governments are working to banning most firearms to disarm the population but why is the question I would ask.

You can build your own and I have, many others I know also have. I began with looking at the requirements as to hinges and locking devices and worked from there, I fitted internal hinges and locking mechanisms well above those required and no problems to date.

The "why" would be because Government is about control of the masses. As I understand it, in the Philipines for example, one can own a handgun but not a rifle; the theory being that one can not start a revolution with handguns.

Because 'civilisation' is breaking down. An article I read some years ago, in one of the shooting magazines, stated that a UK government report suggested that by 2050 civil unrest would have reached unmanageable proportions and that their intent (the government's) was to remove as many firearms from the civilian population as possible. Scaremongering perhaps, but the more I see of life the more likely I see this to be true.

Ive just been granted my licence and they didn't check if the cabinet was an approved version, I asked the officer and he said they use common sense when looking at the cabinets
Make sure there are not gaps around the cabinet not below it, I had mine raised slightly off the floor so it was more comfortable to get my guns out of and was told I need to fit a plinth.

IIRC it was UK.gov that pushed for the tightening pre-brexit in an attempt to bring all of Europe into line with UKs near total ban on firearms.
Seemingly the Germans aren't overly keen on the idea.

No it was the extreme lefties and the greens in france and germany. They are trying to push it through quick before the very pro-gun malta takes over the eu presidency in january. Ah democracy at work, brings a glow to the old cockles doesn't it.
