Grant oil boiler woes!

I need a new filter as it doesn't look like it has ever been replaced (it's had 3 services)

The light is on the actual pump and does show fault codes with different colours or pulses, the boiler control is analogue
I'm now wondering if this faulty sensor would cause the boilers overheat trip to operate as it's happened twice in the last couple of months?

Check your filter in the oil line from the tank. Running three Grant oil boilers all with Reilo burners and not had an oil pump fail in 6 years. (oh heck what am I bringing on myself !)

That sounds a more advanced burner unit than I have, mine just has the burner tripped light! Glad you've got it running again.

Are you there when the guy services it? Changing filters or at least cleaning them, schedules will be in the manual. I keep-a spare flame sensor, and burner nozzle for out two ( both same boiler, which was a conscious decision when doing the barn conversions) There isnt much to servicing an oil boiler, only techy bit is the analyser to see its combusting properly.

Cleaned the photocell, changed the capacitor, changed the pump, the little plastic connector thingy etc. Everything appeared to spin freely. Even slung some oil into the heating oil tank to try and lube things.

No! The guy that installed it is off having cancer treatment he's good and anyone that drag raced a twin engined MZ is ok in my book the other guy had to call me at work as "the pump won't restart" after he serviced it

Nah, all the oil splashed over me trousers is testament to that

I would avoid putting engine oil into the kerosene, when it burns it will produce a lot of soot and can leave a tar residue.

That sounds wrong to me is the pump fully immersed in heating oil? is the base of your tank above the level of the burner or a Tigerloop fitted so it is always primed?
This happened to a neighbour of mine heating engineer just primed the pump and relied on the level not dropping too far; as the tank level dropped his heating stopped and took the pump with it.

Yes, that's far newer, I put my boiler in in 1994 and according to the hour meter I fitted it has run 23130hrs, only parts that have been replaced are the nozzle and the Tigerloop.

Also sounds odd to me - I'm about to jinx myself now, but about the only thing that I *haven't* had trouble with in my 17 year relationship with my Firebird boiler is the oil pump. (Motor capacitor, yes). Ours is gravity fed.

I had to laugh when I saw Firebird boilers described as "**** but cockroach like qualities" - so true!

Looking at some of these posts I'm going to get a motor capacitor in stock just in case. I'll probably over time collect some spares like another photocell and I've already got a new spare pump.
Gonna need to be self sufficient when the riots start and society crashes

My tank did drop low on the last occassion, not below the outlet though, but yes my tank is probably level with my burner so I'll remember to keep it filler in the furture.

Nothing better than that smug feeling you get when you head to the cupboard,drawer or shelf and get that spare you already have and will get something back running.
