He must have a dozen Stihl piston and cylinder kits on the shelf thenNothing better than that smug feeling you get when you head to the cupboard, drawer or shelf and get that spare you already have and will get something back running.
It's the same feeling @8ob gets several times a week![]()
Thanks Matt!
I'll get one, I've kept the old flame sensor as I wanted to have a play with it to see what's inside.
you must have a newer boiler control board than meI've taken the sensor apart and there looks like a burnt SMT resistor or other similar component (I can't see it it's so,small!) Bin job
I went out to check the boiler on Sunday and it smelt quite oily, I found the flexy oil pipe was weeping so ordered a new one along with a filter element from Heating Parts Warehouse. They're here already, not the cheapest but good service!.

Apparently those metal braided pipes are supposed to be replaced every year or two. The green pipes are something like five years. Our plumber mentioned it last year.I've taken the sensor apart and there looks like a burnt SMT resistor or other similar component (I can't see it it's so,small!) Bin job

Same as the filter that looks like it's never been touched! I'll find another boiler man for the next service. I'm tempted to get OFTEC registration and do that as a job instead of being an electrician, seems like easy money servicing and installing oil boilers...Apparently those metal braided pipes are supposed to be replaced every year or two. I'm about to jinx myself now, but about the only thing that I *haven't* had trouble with in my 17 year relationship with my Firebird boiler is the oil pump. (Motor capacitor, yes). Ours is gravity fed.
Going back many years when I worked for a builders merchant, we sold 3/8 OD soft copper for oil lines & the fittings were generally flare fittings. The flaring tool was the same as the basic ones sold today in MM type places for brake lines but without the little die for doing the double flare.Another call from an old neighbour that his filter is leaking! I'm going to have a look tonight.
I think they're 3/8" fittings, it's old pipe so probably not 8 or 10mm.
Any ideas?
